I'm on my way to the US first thing tomorrow morning. Going through customs is making me nervous as hell!!!! Especially after hearing some people being turned away. Anyway, I'm bringing with me the following docs to show ties here at home in Canada:

-Letter from employer stating I am on approved leave and expected back to work on Sept 5th

-Couple recent pay check stubs

-Mortgage statement and a copy of my online banking showing mortgage and utility bill pay'ts

-A few utility bills

-Truck loan

-My return ticket (obviously)

-My sweetie is taking me on a 5-night cruise to Bermuda so I have those travel docs too.

They'll probably see that I have something going on with USCIS when they scan my passport, I was planning on telling them we just sent in our petition a couple weeks ago... (but only if they ask!) but I don't have the NO1 yet or any copies of anything submitted (my fiance has all that).

Is there anything else that somebody can think of that I might need?

I clear customs at the Ottawa airport before I even get on the plane and I live 5 mins from the airport so if they really wanted something, then I could rush home to get it.... but hopefully I'll get a nice Officer and they'll just let me through.....I'm keeping my fingers crossed and will post my experience at POE when I get to the "other side".

Sounds like you have proof of ties and proof of your return which is the main caution.... Without an NOA1, you may not even be in the 'system' yet. Just be honest in answering questions. David's arrival on the VWP was uneventful, and that was after our NOA1, but everyone's experience is different. Best wishes and enjoy your reunion!

Jen

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

You seem to be pretty organized and I'm sure you wont' have any problems.

Just be very truthful to the Officers, and don't volunteer too much information.

I travelled to the U.S. several times (by car, mind you) from Canada and told them I was visiting my boyfriend. If they asked me if I knew about the K-1 Visa, I told them, yes, we are actually waiting for our approval right now. As long as you have proof of ties to Canada, they will most likely be satisfied that you are only on a "visit" and will return until your application is approved.

Good luck and have a wonderful time with your fiance.

Your letter from your employer will be very benefical. When I crossed a few weeks ago and wanted proof of my returning, that's what they were most concerned with - work ties. I did not have a letter so instead, they called work. (Nobody answered, and I was still OK). Just let work know that they may get a phone call.

Good luck - and good luck with the mailbox!
