My wife recently got her immigrant visa at New Delhi embassy. We are planning to come to USA soon. Can someone suggest what to expect at POE? In particular..

a) How much time it takes to get all the paperwork done at POE

b) We should be going in the immigrant visa lines - correct?

c) What documents should we have with us apart from passport and sealed packet from embassy?

Thank you.

As far as ive gathered you can go through the USC/LPR lines as they are usually shorter!

Its a bit of a confusing situationa s youre kind of in between!

Generally waving the mysterious brown envelope around and hoping someone notices you is the best way to go if completely confused!

How much time it will take is a bit inaccurate to predict since it all depends on how much people there are, and how fast the CBP officers are working.

Yes you can go in the USC/LPR line, the officer will take your picture and fingerprints, then will tell you to wait for another officer who will guide you to a different room. That's where you wait to be called, they will open the IV packet, do their thing, then call you to sign a form and take your index fingerprint. After that they give you your passport back with the CR-1 or IR-1 stamp with expiration date on it.

For us it took about 35-40 min, my POE was Houston.

Some people suggest to bring the X-ray, but I only brought the brown envelope with me. Nothing else should be needed.
