Dual-Citizenship

I heard that dual citizens do not get a visit from Santa because he assumes you reside at the "other" country. Instead he sends a female Elf with a short skirt and long, red patent leather boots who spanks you while feeding you eggnogg from a funnel. The guy who told me that works at a bar, so I'm sure it's true.

 Oh lord.. I havent laughed that hard in AGES.. still have tears coming out of my eyes!! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

I find it tricky in that the US makes you file income taxes for life. :hehe:

Ashley, I'd be interested in knowing why your fiancé thinks it would affect a house loan. Did he hear it from a friend? There are a lot of misconceptions about immigration and citizenship. I don't think it's necessary to be rude about correcting the misconception(s) when someone is looking to be educated, though. I'm sure your question will help quite a few people. Just look at some of the great answers in this thread. :)

yes he did hear it from a friend who i dont know but he was so pursuaded that i get rid of my canadian citizenship when i move there die to that reason...

he unfortunately doesnt og on websites like these so every info that i bring up to him thats new he always has someone or sothing that prevents it from being true..

and to all others ty for responses i will make sure tu clear things up with him even if it means making him read all these posts

in fact his exact thing he said was ''flight risk''

he supposably ask his boss's wife who asked her accountant about it. the 2 major banks in wisconsin will not give loans to those who have dual-citizenship

anyone here experience any of this 1st hand?

It wouldn't let me edit to add:

I have never heard of this (I am the USC). Even if he doesn't go to forums like this, you can print this thread out and show him. Have your guy speak to an officer at his bank.

Unfortunately the smaller the town, the less knowledge people have (of course that applies anwhere, including Canada) Think of it this way - banks lend money to foreign investors and there are foreign companies building in other countries all the time.

Again it's kind of through the grapevine...bosse's wife's accountant blah blah blah.....if you know what I mean.

One thing I would like to mention is how on earth are the banks going to know your a dual citizen or not. Its not like the forms are going to ask this question. If and when you become a citizen, all your information is going to show you are a US citizen and nothing else. So unless you tell them they will never know. I really think these ppl are trying to scare him to make you give up your citizenship. The bit about the accountants I think is total BS, how would they know about the dealings the Banks do are they the Banks accountant too. My best friend in Ohio her husband is the accountant at his Bank and they have a mortgage she didn't have to give up her Canadian citizenship.

The only problem you will have when you first arrive is that you will have zero credit and will have to start over. Whether you are a resident or a citizen your credit will be zero unless you get it built up. That will be the only reason the banks wont give you a mortgage, you need credit. So when you arrive you will do like the rest of us and start building it up.

As for the flight risk bit I would think all the illegals that have mortgages would be more of a flight risk then dual citizens. I'm sure eventually someone from Wisconsin will come along and get the info you are looking for that area.

Lot of us are dual USA/CDN citizens here. Never had a problem with any financial institutes here. Only reason why some Canadians may have problem getting a mortgage or loan in the USA is because they have NO CREDIT HISTORY in the USA--One has to build up credit pretty much from square one! And their are a few threads on VJ on how to get obtain credit/credit cards!! Giving up Ones cdn citizenship has NOTHING to do with that--ur still going to have no credit history in the USA.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

The whole thing is just another made up scare story that's been going around like so many other falicies. No one has been denied for a loan based on being a US citizen or a dual citizen. People tend to believe so many things and then tend to make things up or stretch the truth so much it becomes distorted.

There are so many about new citizenships, dual, Green Cards and so on. Hell 1/4 of the idiot population don't even think that Hawaii is a state and Obama is not a full blooded born American, yet had no problem voting for McCain who was born off of Panama.

The "Friend of the friend" thing is what always sets it off as a falicy. If there was any basis to the loan denial, it was not because of the citizenship issue, it was something else unrelated, but they chose that angle to use because it makes them seem more like a victim. Either that or the bank they chose to deal with is a cardboard box stand set up on a street corner, run by a single person called "Bob"...

When we bought our first house, I had *NO CREDIT* at all and I had just recently gotten my green card a couple months earlier. Bank of America is the one that took our mortgage and I was asking to be put on it with my husband. They requested a copy front and back of my greencard and put me on the mortgage with him even tho I had no credit at all.

Our bank would have put me on the mortgage for our first house (we bought a house just a couple of weeks after I moved to the US) but it would have upped our loan rate by .25% or something.... I can't recall any longer.... due to my lack of credit history in the US. On the other hand, the car dealership DID use my Canadian credit history to get me a better rate. There's no consistency.

well thats all great to know, im definetly going to keep my canadian citizenship i mean ofcourse if theres no problems relating to me having it why get rid of it

I have yet to find any good reason for anyone to have to give up their Canadian citizenship unless it's for some massive top secret government job. I don't even think you need to get rid of it if you became a governer either or a senate member or even a member of congress.

Canada is one of those really docile nations that really keep no tabs on their citizens once they leave. Unlike the US where you still have to file taxes if you no longer live in the US, Canada pretty much doesn't even notice when someone no longer lives there. Anyone saying you can't get this or that because you have both citizenships is either wrong or lying or pulling ####### out of their butts with the "friend of a friend" Snopes type garbage...
