Diet is meaningless if we don't gets todays kids active..... You can eat 'healthy' foods and still be obese if you don't excercise along with it.

You can be overweight and actually be healthy. But I do see your point. Kids need to be encouraged to eat right, and exercise too.

I've seen more arts programs cut than Sports programs... Hell, I've seen boosters go out of their way to make sure as hell that sports programs don't get cut...

I've seen boosters go out and purchase athletic equipment rather than simply donate money to the schools athletic department for fear that the "stinking libruls might take the money and spend it on books, and not footballs". West Texas isn't the only place that goes over the top batsh!t crazy about football.

Exercise is important, but diet is equally so. If as a kid you were able to eat ####### and not be overweight, it was probably due to lots of activity as well as good genes.

At the school I taught at in Italy I can't remember a single overweight child. And from my observation, the biggest difference in their lifestyle was diet, not exercise.

Do the schools in Italy provide nutritious lunches for them?

All the kids in my neighborhood/school growing up were pretty average. We ate ####### like hot dogs, macaroni & cheese, pizza, hamburger help, and then fresh foods as well.. and fast food once a week probably if not less than that.... We also ate the same fried ####### that they have in schools today..

The difference is, that we were active. We had like 2 15-20 min minutes recesses a day, including a relatively long lunch to play outside. Then of course when we got home, we would play outside until dark or maybe a little after. We would ride our bikes up and down the street, etc.. We were encouraged to be outside. If we tried to watch TV we were told to get the hell out of the house....

These days, kids are encouraged to play games, watch tv, be on the computer, etc... Too many parents are afraid their kid is going to be raped......

In the public schools kids go home for lunch. At the school I worked at, we had a cafeteria that served a hot lunch that was, generally speaking, pretty nutritious.
