Question Please!

when i filled my N-400 application, on D, Good Moral character, i checked Question number 16, the reason is becasue i got a speeding ticket, which it conceder a citation.

The question is. on the buttom it says why were you arrest, cited, detained, or charged. ... Date, Where, and .....(Outcome or disposition of the arrest, citation, derention, or charge (No charges filed, charges dismissed, jail, propation, ect.) now i think i did a terrible mistake when i wrote there (NO CHARGES FILED) i should put citation ??? so what do u think guys???

No you can just let the IO know when you go to your interview. Was it over $500? Don't worry, just let the IO and it should be ok.

No worries, I did the same thing, and I received the yellow letter indicating I need to bring documentation for it. I marked yes to that question because of speeding tickets that were recevied in the past, so I don't feel that applies to us if there were no arrest , dui, etc. Don't worry, you'll be just fine.

You need to answer "Yes" but issues under $500 do not have to be "documented." However, if you have the paperwork for the speeding ticket, just bring it with you to the interview.

Hi, Thank you so much guys for ur help, and Yes the fine was $250 Dollars, the mistake i did is, on the last column, i wrote NO CHARGES FILED, i should wrote FINE

And what did u guys write on the last column?? FINE or NO CHARGES FILED? I dint go to court because wasnt requred for me to go, because the fine was $250, but as i said instead if to write FINE i wrote NO CHARGES FILED. by the way what does this mean? <NO CHARGES FILED?>

Hmmmm this just got me thinking..I will be filing the N-400 in March.. I got a ticket a couple of years ago for not wearing a seatbelt..will I have to answer yes in question 16?

This topic has come and gone many times on many boards. If the ticket is under $500 and not DUI related you do not have to mark a yes for the citation. If you have other issues on your N-400 or other arrests then you might want to put a yes for this just to show that you have paid off the ticket. If you haven't had any other infractions or any other things that could be problematic on your N-400 you do not have to disclose simple speeding tickets.

Source USCIS and my IO in my interview as well as a number of other boards and immigration laywers out there on the web...

(i wasn't requierd to attend to court) Do you think it will be a problem for me when i wrote NO CHARGES FILED?

Back, i Just got back from DMV. and i got my driving record, with no points on my D.L.

Good to know =) .you will be just fine no need to stress over it. I just checked mine and here is what I put for every ticket I've had. As long as is not DUI, or something major you will be fine. Good luck.

No matter what Warlord says, if you have been fined you answer YES to question 16. According to the instructions, you do not need to DOCUMENT it, but at my interview, the I.O. specifically asked me for my paperwork for the $132 fine I paid for answering my cell phone while driving and entered details about it in the N-400 form.

And again, from the USCIS, and my IO and many others that have reported it on forums.immigration.com and from lawyers, they all agree that the answer is NO. I took that advice when I throughly researched this topic years back for my N-400 as I was confused as everyone else did. I brought this up to the IO in my interview too stating I was confused. He backed up what the USCIS told me on the phone and that was I did not need to disclose or say yes to the citation.

If you answer yes, then be prepared to bring supporting documentation. Those that have answered yes many times are asked then to show proof it was paid. This is why the general consensus is to say NO.

Unless things have changed in recent years, which with the USCIS I highly doubt...
