Hi everyone  ,

I'm back to VisaJourney. Once again, we need your precious help.

We got married few weeks ago and are ready to send the package for AOS. (L)

We have a last question... Does Tanya need to change her name on the forms? I mean she is American and I'm the beneficiary (French).

Is it wrong or a mistake if for example she fills forms like Affidavit of Support with her Maiden name? :ot:

Thanks a lot fellow members!!!

When the wife takes the man's name it's a real sign of her commitment and dedication to her hubby and new relationship. And that can't hurt at AOS time.

When the woman insists on hyphenating her name, well, that just makes me puke. And men who now hyphenate their name well, they need to surrender their man card!

Ce n'est pas vrai.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I'm the USC and chose not to take my husband's name. There were no problems with AOS using, not my maiden name, but my former marriage name which I continue to go by 2 years later.

No. Plenty of people keep their maiden name. If she wants to she certainly can, but she doesn't need to by any means.

This makes me puke!

Changing your name is a pretty superficial way to "show commitment and dedication" to your marriage... not a "real sign" at all. I beat my husband everyday with a bat, but I am really committed and dedicated because I took his name?? (and no, I don't really do that). And I suppose because a man doesn't change his name he isn't dedicated at all... but who cares right? as long as "the wife" doesn't find out? Sickening!

OP: There is no requirement to change your name, and it will not be positive or negative come AOS time. Do what makes you comfortable with your name.

This is a myth that needs to be dispelled! It doesn't matter to USCIS if you change your name or not!

Thank you!

We sent the package for AOS this morning.

We're really sorry if someone wants to puke. Tanya and I are in love and the last time i puked, it's because i drunk too much wine to celebrate the life.

I'm pretty sure Boing's comment was meant to be sarcastic.

Back to the OP: Are you asking whether she needs to take your name for AOS to be granted? Or are you saying she did change her name and asking which name she should use in AOS forms and affidavits? She does not need to change her name--many women don't and it's not an issue at all. I did not change my name and my husband's AOS was approved with no interview. If she HAS changed her name, she should probably use her married name since that is now legally her name. I doubt using her maiden name instead would cause any problems either way.
