At what point in the process is it helpful to talk to an elected representative?

the US rep for my district is a really good one, and I have had involvement with his office on a number of thing so am on a first name basis with his Constituent services specialist. Do I speak to her now and advise her of our petition and share my petition package with her now so she is familiar with it? Or is it better to not involve a rep unless there is actually a problem?....Proactive or reactive?

Thanks, Eric

You involve a rep when you are approaching the five month mark and no approval in site. Lookiing at your signature, it's way too early to get them involve now.

My understanding is, the time to contact the congressman is when your file has been ignored significantly past the normal time. somewhere on this site is an interview with one of USCIS officials.

Im sure someone else can tell us where it is, I think he says in the interview if the congressman inquires about it , they have 48 hours to look at it. that dosnt mean they will approve it, but they have

to look at it and then forward something to the congressman telling what they have done.

my personal experience with doing this was 20 years ago.

I married my wife in the Philippines and she was lying to me about her age, among other things. I knew she was not the most honest person in the world, So after we were married I said, "OK we are

married now "I forgive you ahead of time for any lies but you have to be honest with me now" "We can not Lie to the INS" . Tell me everything before we send in the application.

I think it was just before she was supposed to have her interview that she confessed to me that she was lying about her age. I dont remember the details but we had already passed the first half or

the process so I sent in a letter apologizeing and explaining that She had been lying to me about her age. We got put on the back burner. Which is just what "We" deserved.

but after maybe 9 months I contacted a congressman and we shortly recieved an approval notice. The file that I recieved in the mail (possibly from the congressman) had a red stamp on it that said

"congressional interest" that stamp had a date on it , and the approval was just a couple of days after that date.

If the normal wait time is 5 months on something and you've been waiting 3 months and they get congressional interest I think the congressman gets a polite letter stating that it's only been 3 months and

then they put you back in the pile.
