Temporary wives

Contracts with "temporary wives" are a legal way for Iranian men to have mistresses outside marriage, with the agreements lasting from between several hours to a few years.

Under Iranian law, men and women can commit to a "temporary marriage" for an agreed period of time after a certain amount of money is paid to the woman.

In Iran, men are allowed up to four legal wives under Islam and any number of temporary wives. Women can only be married to one man at a time....

AKA ...Prostitutes.

Since via K1 you're swearing under oath you intend to LEGALLY marry someone how can you petition for an orfi?

it's not really any different than holding a religious ceremony in the intended immigrant's home country then applying for a K1 - just has the added bonus of being a little bit scandalous depending on one's POV.

Hmmmm, isn't this the infamous "orfi" marriage that many people use to immigrate on a K1? innocent.gif

It's not urfi, it's mut'a. Muta is legal in Shia jurisprudence. Most Iranians are Shia. Neither muta nor urfi is legal for Sunnis.

Since the religion requires you to be actually married to the person you're claiming is your spouse, then, yes, applying for a K1 while denying you're really married is in contradiction to the faith. This is usually done by less than honorable or knowledgeable Muslim men with non-Muslim women who don't know any better.

It is not the same as muta. which is the topic of the OP.

What it IS, is a "legal" way for Muslim men (who most definitley know better) to hire prostitutes and not violate religious rules. It is a complete joke and proof that religions are nothing more than hobbies. Like being a Dallas Cowboys fan or something. Nothing more. Except for fanatics who will blow up themselves or other people over religion.

I don't agree with muta or urfi, but at least muta serves a specific purpose in Shia Islam. Urfi is just a shameful excuse to defy the law by Sunni men.

Guess this is why they call it the religion of peace.

Who is "they"?
