Tourist Visa to Work Visa

I am a Filipino citizen and within the last two months I was granted a tourist visa (B1/B2) to the USA and for the past three weeks I have been living with my boyfriend in New York. I have finished all of my educational requirements except for my work-study program which requires me to do x amount of hours of work before I can receive my degree. Would I need to apply for a different visa to do an internship? If wanted to change my visa to be eligible to work in the US would I lose my tourist visa if I get denied?

Internship usually goes under the J-1 visa and that is not a work visa. You will need to apply for it and receive it at the US embassy/consulate in your home country.

What makes you think you would be denied for J1?

I am not aware of a degree where you need x amount of working hours for you to get your degree.

Coz technically if you an international student you cannot work off the campus unless you go on your intern status.

Not all of the students are required to work as intern, its a optional choice, normally it is part of your F1 and you dont need J1.

So If you never finished your education, why did u transfer to B1/B2

I believe OP studied in her home country as there was no mention of F1 visa. She's looking into doing internship in the US.

Now logially why would any country allow their student to do their internship in different country? The other way around why would US let her enter the country under such a condition just to do her internship?

I know of a program in Croatia in Hotel Management where you go for internships with the US based companies and school matches the students with employers - J1 visa.

Don't know what OPs requirements are for internship in the US though - maybe she'd care to elaborate so we can offer advice?

I was at the DMV yesterday, ski resort, 3 Croatians in front of me, they were over for the season.

Sounds over complicated, do it when you get home.

I know of professional qualifications that require a minimum work experience, trade schools often require something similar.
