No. In China the police certificate will apply for the entire country. Basically wherever her hukou is located is where she gets the police certificate and notary. Going through this with my wife and even though she lives in Chengdu, her Hukou is in Nanning so we have to do everything there.

I'm seeking more comments and clarification regarding police certificates :)

According to this link:

http://travel.state....195.html#police

"Present and former residents of the United States need NOT obtain any U.S. police certificates."

I wonder if the word "residents" include "aliens" who were here on long-stay visas like F-1 and J-1.

I'd like to make sure the Guangzhou consulate won't give us a hard time for not providing a U.S. police certificate because my SO was here for 11 months in the past.

Your comments please, thank you :)

There's not "certificate" for time in the USA. They just do the record check themselves and then put it in the file.

pushbrk,

Thanks for your comment.

Just to be sure I fully understood what you said, I'm putting it in my own words: "the Guangzhou Consulate will not ask my SO for a U.S. police certificate. If for some reason they do, we'll point them to this link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html#police"

Did I get this right?

Thank you!!

Yes, but they won't request one anyway.
