I need to read up on that. How is that compared to the Google TV?

WHAT? You have an iPad and you don't use Apple TV? Insolence! Please relinquish your Apple product to the nearest authorized dealer!

iPad, dPad, mePad - these handheld devices are the next phase. They are the future in terms of published content viewing, IMO.

while great for portable internet/carrying books/downloaded movies/documents with you, they are pretty useless beyond that.... They are like an all-in-one portable device...

Without a keyboard/mouse/proper GPU - they will never be the next PC.

Apple TV costs $99, Google TV costs $250, and word on the street says it is not ready for prime time.

Don't know much about Roku Box, but it is worth considering, too. I hope Apple TV gets an upgrade to stream Hulu like most other boxes or devices.

Apple TV is definitely the way to go though, if you have any apple products. Now you can send content from any of them to your big screen via Apple TV.

They are more in competition with smart phones, mp3's, books and magazines than they are with a traditional PC (even notebooks). Most people who use computer nowadays, use them for those very things you mentioned. The average consumer doesn't need the kind of power and options that conventional PC's offer and for about $500, iPads are an attractive alternative.

Oh, that's because Adobe and Apple are still fighting each other. I'm assuming skyfire isn't really authorized by Adobe? Sucker.

Here's how it works. You click on a link for a flash video. The skyfire browser retrieves the video content and sends it to skyfire servers. The video is converted to an iPad-compatible format by software on the skyfire servers. Then skyfire servers stream it to your iPad.

It would work fine if skyfire servers weren't so slow (overburdened, actually).

Wow...that's really a roundabout way of watching Flash videos. Hopefully, Adobe and Apple will come to an agreement as the iPads and its competitors really take hold of the market.

Yeah, they are an easy sell to alot of people, I agree.

For one like myself though, I'll take a full notebook over a ipad any day of the week. Especially since notebooks have the capabilities of desktops these days with the GPUs they have. Though, I'm still more likely to take and enjoy tbe building of a new desktop....

everyone in our management team has an iPad now, from the CEO down to my boss. at my level, about half of us have iPads but unlike the aholes above us, we paid for our own.

of course, this means i can download apps to my ipad without going through procurement which is always nice.
