I HATE "dear". I'd almost rather you call me c###, usually it's closer to what the person actually wants to say.

eeek! :wow:

depends on situation but mine is mostly "i'm trying to be polite and patient" (usually with the men in my life  )... the "dear" (or "honey") replaces a sigh (i.e. "just kill me now Lord and put me out of my misery" :P)... take a deep breath, say "that's ok dear/honey", and plow forward with whatever we're dealing.

if you gave your info (receipt #s, full name, etc) to anyone on VJ under the guise that they would "help" you through the immigration journey with his inside contacts (like his sister at USCIS) ... please contact OLUInquiries@dhs.gov, and go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact to report anything suspicious. Contact your congressman and senator's offices as well.

I'm going to weigh in here on the use of 'dear'. It depends on context. In the original post in this thread where it was used it did not come off as condescending or insulting, nor did it appear to mean to do so, but was used more like the Old South habit of calling anyone 'sugar' or 'hon' - (both of which I dislike, so can appreciate its annoyance). The intent does not come across as an attempt to demean or to degrade someone, but is used as a 'catch all when you don't know the 'status' of the person, and ma'm or sir is too formal.

When it's use was deemed as a TOS violation it is because it was meant to put down, denigrate and demean the person at who it was directed. It isn't so much the use of 'dear' that is the TOS violation, but how it is used.

That being said, let's tone down the baiting that is going on in this thread, though, ok? Thanks :)

lol i had reply window up then had to leave computer for extended time or would have replied to your post instead! i use hon if it's my husband or honey if children.... and my family IS 'old south' LOL! i hate "sugar", calls to mind the gum chomping "shuga" waitresses and the "come give me some sugar" of all the relatives and of course every perv who would try to cop a feel {puke} of my childhood.

as far as "dear" now i've heard "dearie" used pretty harshly ...

Please explain why this woman faces death...

because pakistan has blasphemy law, and that is the punishment.

you may not like the law but it is what it is. different country, different set of rules. although, we DO have blasphemy laws here as well, just not as harsh (Pakistan has THE harshest blsphemy laws on the books). like most laws here in USA, these laws are blatantly disregarded, though they are pulled out from time to time. in 2007 a filmmaker in Pennsylvania was denied his corporate name, I Choose Hell Productions, based on Pennsylvania's blasphemy law. below are links to the 6 states who still have blasphemy laws on the books.

the UK abolished its laws in England and Wales against blasphemy in 2008 (i didnt research to see what punishments were there).

I'm not big on religion myself. But I haven't heard of any citizens living in a civilized country facing the death penalty for bad mouthing another religion.

I mean let's call a spade a spade. What this woman is facing goes to show just how backwards and barbaric some Muslim country's are...and it's scary thinking that we are almost in the year 2011 and they are still living in the 17th century.

I agree with that but my point was that it's just a matter of degree.

Once a religious community asserts itself in the way that President Bush did, it is a dangerous and slippery slope which can end up anywhere. If the Constitution of the US can be tossed aside so easily, what chance the other countries ?

Interestingly, surveys show that Americans think that non-believers are less trustworthy than any religious person including Muslims.

I have researched this and found out that many US religious denominations are related to Calvinism which believes that people are born bad and immoral until they are saved - therefore the unsaved are bad, criminal, unprincipled, materialistic etc etc etc

Having said that, I am very much against cruel punishments in general, and if the report is true, the governments involved should be ashamed of themselves in letting things like this happen.

The UN/International criminal court should be more active in this area as they were in rounding up enemies of the West like Milosevich

Where are all you loving, caring and sharing muslims at now??? I want to know what kind of religion promotes this kind of violence??? AND why do muslims always fight to allow no other religions in their country?? Why do muslims persecute Christians??? What a joke this is and the lie muslims push off on the world, oh your real peaceful and all inclusive alright, only under your sick violent terms! This is just another example of how muslims want a free pass and run around crying discrmination or how mistreated or misunderstood they are but yet where are you all now? I do not see anyone rushing to this poor woman's rescue, just because she is a Christian and does not subscribe to muslim beliefs, then she is to be killed. What a total joke and hypocrisy muslims exhibit. Can you imagine if the USA started rounding up all muslims and having them killed because they did not follow Christian religions??? Funny how I never see any muslims protesting this utter nonsense by these muslim, islamic law countries! :hehe::blink::unsure:

Sad indeed. It's not even clear that she called Mohamed a bad name. Most likely her neighbors made the story up.

BTW, The PEACE in TROP is the peace that will be felt when the entire world is forced to convert to Islam.

Peace out.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
