New Jersey took yet another step closer to becoming the first US state to introduce legal online gambling, after Senator Ray Lesniak’s bill was approved by the Senate. The bill will allow New Jersey residents and foreigners to place bets online through “sophisticated software” on servers located in Atlantic City casinos. Players from other states will not be allowed to.

...

The bill authorized the internet offering of “poker, roulette, baccarat, blackjack, craps, big six wheel, slot machines, mini baccarat, red dog, pai gow, and sic bo, any variations or composites of such games, provided that such variations or composites, and any above listed game or variation or composite of such game to be offered through internet wagering.”

...

After passing through Senate, the bills are now to be decided on by Governor Chris Christie. And while the governor’s spokesperson would not comment or speculate on the outcome of his decision, sources close to him say that “all indications are” that he would sign them into law.

Speaking in an interview last week, Lesniak said that “I don’t think he’s going to have any option but to sign it before the end of the year.”

“We have to put forward regulations, so that will take some time, but we’re very well versed in regulating gambling, so we’re in good shape to get this rolling as soon as possible,” he added.

Wow, New Jersey thinks they can trump Federal law.good.gif

Here is what Lesniak has to say. The newbie language wrt tech makes me cringe a little, but he is just a pol I suppose.

... the Justice Department doesn’t have any authority over Internet Gaming that is exclusively intrastate. The very sophisticated software available is to ensure that only New Jersey residents will be able to gamble and that the signal that the Internet site be located in New Jersey as well and that precludes any federal authority from intervening

Good luck with that. When the Feds said that they banned any internet gambling by anyone that lives in the United States I just assume they mean New Jersey too.

That's because our federal government has begun to think of themselves as a national government...
