My nieces class has done a video as part of the "My Alberta School" project and are one of the finalists. If you have a couple of mins please take a look at the video and vote. It is about 5 mins long. Video Link

"Our grade nine students have been discussing our school identity as part of Social Studies 9 this year. During this discussion, the students raised various interesting comments about the uniqueness of Namao School. We are currently finishing up a challenging renovation which was mentioned several times by the students.

What quickly became clear was that it is not really our building that makes Namao unique, but the people and the relationships that are built within our walls. The class discussed the amazing diversity of our students and the quality character of the people in our building.

The students came up with a plan to tell the school how they felt. Armed with over 1200 sticky notes, sidewalk chalk and window markers, our Social Studies 9 students created some inspiration one evening. The following morning over 400 students were welcomed to school with messages of love, inspiration and care.

Their plan is what makes Namao truly exceptional; the care and concern that our students have for one another...Our grade nine students have been discussing our school identity as part of Social Studies 9 this year. What a really cool video! Well done! I've voted for them - it looks like they are currently in second place. Good luck to them - let us know how it turns out.

(I looked at the current number one placed school's submission - my vote would still be the same :) ).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Done! They appear to be in first place right now

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks everyone!! It is the same school that I went to from K to grade 9. It is a small school that really is in the middle of nowhere (there is a HS, store, church, community hall and volunteer FD) in the town and only about 3 houses. Most of the kids come from either farms or some of the nearby acreages. They just renovated the school and the kids have had to endure having classes on the stage in the gym (nothing like trying to write an exam when there is a phys ed class going on!!), the Hub (a community kitchen area with a small dining area...the school is frequently used on weekends for community events as well!). They converted part of the industrial arts room to a class room as well. It has been over a year and a half and the kids have had to deal with some less than ideal conditions, so this would be something really positive for them for all they have been through!! Some of the teachers are still there from when I went to school and that was over 20 yrs ago, so I think that says alot about how the school is run to retain teachers for that length of time!
