Hubby and I had his interview on Monday in Montreal. Generally speaking everything went well...

Here's the recap...

We stayed at the Tour Centre Ville which is right across the street from the embassy. I would recommend the hotel, it's decent, nothing to brag about but nothing to complain about either.

We arrived at the embassy at 7:20. We were the first ones in the door, first ones in the elevator, first ones out of the elevator [the elevator opens on the other end when you get to floor 19... FYI], first ones at Window 14, and thus, we had C1. When we got called, the guy told us that the passport photos we had were insufficient. We got the photos done at CVS [don't reccommend them] and apparently the size, coloring, and "shadowing" made the photos not usable. I had a moment of panic, but fortunately he said that we could go to a place just a block away and get them done and come back. So, we got an orange ticket, went and got new photos, and came back. We finished with that guy and then sat down and waited for the interview part.

C3 got called for the interview first [don't know why], and then C4, and then C2.... because of the photo mishap, we were called next. No biggie though. The interivew was a piece of cake... only asked like two questions and only took like 3 minutes. Even with the mishap and all, we were out of the embassy a little before 10.

We went back the following day at 2:30 and picked up his visa. We're planning on driving to the states on Saturday morning. We'll be crossing via the Blue Water Bridge. I've heard good and bad things about it so we'll see how that goes. I just wanted to thank everyone for the help and the encouragement during this process... and for those of you who are still working your way through, hang in there, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Great news, congrats

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
