John Mark Karr is Lying

I know the American media's going crazy with excitement right now over the confession by John Mark Karr to his having killed JonBenet Ramsey, but as much as Americans might want to go along with a happy ending which promises that no pretty blonde middle-class girls will ever be murdered without their assailants being captured, something about this guy's story just doesn't add up. In fact, the more I think about what he's said so far, the more convinced I am that he's lying, and willingly taking upon himself responsibility for a crime he didn't commit

Now, I don't doubt for a second that Karr is a child molester with a long rap sheet who fled to Southeast Asia to indulge his perversions with impunity, and knowing this type it's perfectly within the bounds of possibility that he even has one or more child killings under his belt, but the facts of Karr's life around the time when this murder occurred simply don't support the notion that he was responsible for it. For one thing, as his ex-wife (who has no obvious reasons to put herself out for him) says, he was with her in Alabama at the time, while the supposed "inside knowledge" Karr is said to possess about the case is easily explained by the fact that he spent a great deal of time in college studying the case - all it would take for him to know something the general public didn't would be for him to have talked to one or two people working with the Denver police department. Finally, it simply doesn't make sense that a sex offender who took the trouble to flee North America in order to continue his crimes should all of a sudden decide to 'fess up to a far more serious charge than any of the ones he wasn't willing to pay for, assuming he was still in what passes for his "right mind" in such a creep. All the facts disclosed so far point me to thinking this guy's just a low-rent Gary Glitter who's decided he might as well make a name for himself if he's no longer going to be able to assault children.

My suspicion is that after the media orgasm over this most lurid of cases dies down a bit, we're going to find that there's absolutely no evidence to corroborate Karr's confession of guilt, and we'll end up right back where we were a week ago, with no one the wiser whether it was an outsider who was to blame for the crime or one (maybe even both) of the girl's own parents. Karr has already given a DNA sample to the US authorities, so it shouldn't be long before we start to learn which way this is going to turn out, but if I'm right, Karr will be just one of the very many Western perverts getting their jollies off in poor countries violating anonymous brown children, rather than the überfiend who killed a "precious blonde angel" [sic]. If you see child molestation as equally wrong regardless of the child's race, nationality or social background, this won't matter much too you either way - one less pervert stripped of his freedom is always a good thing - but if, like much of the American media, sex crimes seem particularly awful to you when they happen to people with blue eyes and fair hair living in expensive homes, odds are you won't be satisfied with how this particular circus turns out.

PS: I forgot to mention one more fact which doesn't add up. According to the AP, Karr says he drugged JonBenet Ramsey before having sex with her, but her autopsy report showed no drugs or alcohol in her corpse. Either this guy has a thus far unmentioned knowledge of chemistry and forensics, enabling him to create sedatives untraceable by pathologists, or he is simply a careless (and possibly delusional) liar repeating whatever fantasies pop into his head as truth.
