Hello All,

I have a quick question. My husband went to collect his medical report on 11/25/10. The staff member informed him that the information is "confidential" and that she could not discuss the report with him. Of course, the contents were sealed in an envelope to be returned during his next interview. Is this normal or is something WRONG? I am a little nervous. Also she stated that it is "confidential" but to me that is his information that he paid for. Just another step in this process that is annoying. Please let me know your experiences. Thanks,

Yep. He's not allowed to know about it or see it.. at least until after all the visa stuff is done. I think it has something to do with being unable to change the results, or seek a second opinion.

i know I DID get a copy of mine once I was in the US because of the whole "medical RFE" thing that was going on... and it ticked me off. They wrote I was 169.5cms tall, when I'm 171.5.. have been for years AND at a docs appointment after the visa stuff (who know what reason it was) I was still 171.5 so I haven't shrunken. This obviously put my BMI a little out of whack... and made me jump one whole category.

Confidential to whom? to the person whose medical results we are talking about? I think that if there was something wrong, a doctor would have the duty to disclose it asap to the patient, no matter what is involved. A visa is not a good reason to hide an illness.

Hi Empress,

Welcome to VJ. The medical report envelope has to remained sealed. This is to ensure that the contents were not tampered with or altered. It seems weird, but this is standard protocol. If you have an further questions, please PM me. Good luck!

Yes. He did not meet with a doctor just the person who schedules the appointments. And yes, she said that it was confidential and that she could not discuss anything with him.I would hope that if something was wrong then the doctor would meet with him. Thanks for your response.

I think this is something that varies by country, because L's doctor told him the results of all of the labs and that he was in great health.

ETA: It could be that the person with whom he spoke isn't authorized to discuss things like medical results, or didn't know that they are his results.

It is normal -- please tell him DO NOT OPEN the envelope it is clearly stamped on the front of it. I guess it depends -- the person that handed my husband his enveloped told him everything was good and good luck with the interview-- that was about all she said...good luck with the interview!
