Exactly. Damn him for not having the votes in Congress to have given us single payer health coverage.

That has to be the lamest thing I have ever heard you say. He had everything he needed to give us single payer, solid majorities in both houses and a mandate from the people. He didn't have the will or the courage to do what needed to be done. He screwed the American people by not doing what he promised and proved himself to be a coward for not standing up to his own party. To blame the reps is a huge stinking load of BS.

The reason that States are going out and getting it done now is so that they don't have to deal with the white elephant that this administration is about to land them with if they don't.

That's good enough for me. In fact, it might just be the best thing that could happen seeing that single payer doesn't have the votes in Congress.

We'll get to see, side-by-side, single payer, public option, private insurance via exchanges and perhaps some other models or hybrids of the above. The market - both economically and politically - will then determine which of these schemes makes the most sense.

If health care reform hadn't passed, the states (most of them) would continue to do what they've done the past few decades - nada.

This is the expensive way to do things. To have the states pass single payer one at a time is better than what we had before, nothing, but we will be left with some states with a good system and other states with the white elephant on their chests. I would have rather had a nation wide single payer that is run by the states with fed regulation and some order of control. Since the dems and Obama dropped the ball and failed us I guess this is the only other option, all be it a more expensive and longer to implement option.

The fault isn't the Republicans. The fault lies wi conservative Democrats like Blanche Lincoln and the dixkhead from Nebraska.

I don't disagree that a nationwide single payer administered by the states based on federal guidelines would have been the best and most efficient way to go. But that just wasn't in the cards. Conservative dems and the whole of the GOP opposed it in favor of lining the insurance industry's pockets. The President failed to put a stake in the ground and stand by it. Had he done that, we would have had nothing done, however, and I feel better seeing states taking action now - however slowly - to start fixing this beast that drags down the country.

The Socialist (and proud to admit it) Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, introduced an amendment to Obamacare to provide for single payer coverage. The Dems killed it in committee. Obama had no intent to present single payer coverage and killed it when it was brought up.

Even though the vast majority of people that supported government healthcare EXPECTED single payer. Obamacare was written in a way guaranteed to get everyone mad.
