Maybe the South Koreans need to relocate Seoul little by little, brick by brick, block by block, about 300 miles south - or whatever it takes to get out of artillery range of the North. Ridiculous, I know. But so long as Seoul is in range of the border there really is no practical military option.

Saying the North Koreans are dictators with an iron grip on their population and then saying we should vaporise the whole population including millions of the oppressed civilian victims who yearn to be McAmericans in order to get rid of a few politicians, is a bit harsh

Millions of Americans wanted to do that to Iraq and kill 20 million civilians in order to get Saddam and chemical Ali and a few more of their buddies - so it seems to be a reoccurring theme over here that foreigners don't matter. Strange in a land of foreigners.

Black and white, love and hate, kill or help. Cage fighting and missionaries. Saints and sinners.

All the extremes of religion and climate and opinion in one country and the extremes are more commonly encountered than the moderate middle.

North Korea wouldn't know what to do with freedom. They worship Kim Jong Il, no matter what. The country is brainwashed into believing what he tells them and has literally no contact with the outside world. They believe what he tells them to believe, much like the iSheep believe that Steve Jobs is looking out for their best interests.

You do raise a very interesting question - if Muslim women are brainwashed into wearing full head coverings, should we liberate them to a life they didn't know was better but is (in our opinion) ?

Are we honor bound to liberate the Iranians and North Koreans and Venezuelans and Cubans etc etc even though they mistakenly (in our opinion) are brainwashed into supporting their governments

Would brainwashed populations, populations brainwashed into opposing us, be better off dead at our hands than living on under those conditions (Give me liberty or death)?

If as an incidental consequence of that, we acquired greater territory and access to mineral wealth and increased influence to promote our systems and religions, isn't there a compelling case for nuking all opponents with brainwashed populations.

Good job we are not brainwashed and these thoughts haven't crossed the minds of the other nuclear powers....

I don't think the US or SK wish for war, but the nutjobs running NK seem to be pushing for it. Of course the history shows NK wants goodies for their behavior not necessarily total war.

I don't know about contractors but those are real US troops along the border with NK and it is NK that has kept the war/police action alive for all these years. NK leadership lives the good life while the population suffers extreme deprivation.
