i know this is at least 9 months off assuming Liu and I make it to final visa acceptence:-)[K1] But i figure it cant hurt to ask.

Liu speaks english quite well. she thinks she doesnt. she types insanely well in yahoo chat. What are some jobs she can try to get is USA? She does secretarial work in China. She is very bright and a very nice person. Any suggestions? Does anyone here have expoerience with interpreting services? Thanks so much.....todd

To become an interpreter, she;'d need a professional qualification in that, and probably before that an English qualification such as the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency. If her English is good, secretarial work would be available here too, or general data entry/ filing.

It really depends on her background, but since she is coming in on a K1 she won't be able to work for at least 3 months assuming that you file AOS ASAP. One thing to consider it to use your personal contacts to find some temporary positions or volunteer work to keep her busy and immersed in English. Two other possibilities are to ensure she has access to the local Chinese society or to look for service jobs on Craigslist. I know several girls who tutored, translated, babysat, ect. while they waited for their work authorization. The worst thing that I have seen is some guys thinking that their intelligent Chinese wife would be happy just sitting at home and being a cut-off housewife.........fail.

Todd,

My wife while after resigning from your office because of planning and traveling she had to do for our formal wedding in Beijing and preparing for her leaving to the U.S. went to the Nanjing Jinling Int'l Language college to aquire a certificate of accreditation in teaching chinese as a second language. I already have a lead of a place near where I live in Orange County, CA that has positions available at different times of the year and also both my wife and I would find other posibilities for her.

So if your fiancee has an inclination of going in this direcition she could see if there are programs in China where she is located that have acceptance in the U.S.
