My fiance needs to get a police certificate from Italy. I looked up on the Travel.state.gov site and they say to write a letter to the "Ufficio del Casellario Giudiziale della Procura della Rubblica" and to ask for a "Certificado Generale del Casellario Giudiziale".

My questions are:

1) Is this the only place we need to write as I thought we needed a national and local police certificate;

2) Has anyone done this and do they know how long it takes;

3) It looks like there is no charge, but I find that hard to believe; and

4) Does the request need to be Italian and if so do any of you know how to write the request as neither of us can read or write in Italian.

Thanks for all your help!

I am no expert, but I worked in the US Embassy Rome. A police certificate from any police office in Italy will be "comprehensive".

3) It looks like there is no charge, but I find that hard to believe; and

A permisso di sojourno is free, why not a police report?

4) Does the request need to be Italian and if so do any of you know how to write the request as neither of us can read or write in Italian.

Even a request for an espresso needs to be in italian. :lol:

Living there was a struggle at times, but my Fiance and I enjoyed it anyway.

With respect to translation, I have friends there, but cannot guarantee that they would help you. Suggest you get a translating service to take care of that. Google it!!!

Good Luck!! Ciao.

I believe this is what you need. I filled out this form and sent a copy of my husband's passport bio page, along with 20 euros cash. If I remember correctly, I received it in about two weeks.

Feel free to PM me if you need help filling it out.
