Hello

I am very new to this forum, but so far I have learned a lot from all of you here. We are getting ready to send the paperwork and I have a question as I am trying to get it right in one shot and minimize the chances of having RFE's. For tax purposes, I have read on this forum that a transcript will do just fine however I would like to know if making a copy of my "Social Security Statement" , that I receive every year around my Birthday from the SSA will got shows my earning records for the past 6 years.

Also, my birth certificate is in both in French and in English as Cameroon is bilingual, do I still have to make a translation?

Thank you for your replies, we are trying to get it in the mail by the beginning of next week

Are you asking about sending the Social Security Statement instead of the tax transcript / tax return or in addition to the transcript?

Thanks for the quick replies

Yes I am asking for the Social Security Statement instead of the tax return and transcripts. The past 2004-2008, I didn't file my axes by myself, I was having a friend of a friend do i, and can' get a hold of him. I don't have the W2's anymore because I made a big move in December from one state to another to start a life with my husband and during the move I was shredding and burning everything that had my personal information on it. However, I recently receive the Social Security Statement and it shows my earnings for each year ever since and I was wondering if it would be valid. 2009, I filed it myself so I have a copy of the tax return

I guess what I was asking about the Birth certificate is that it is both in French and in English, both languages appear on it for every single line

Thanks again for the replies

Just contact the IRS and get a copy of your IRS transcripts.

Also, I see you are filing for AOS. What visa are you adjusting from?

Okay.

** moved from "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" to "Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas" as you are adjusting from an F1 visa and the prior forum is for K1, K2, K3 & K4 **

Social Security income is not necessarily the same as actual income. Some types of income are not subject to the Social Security tax, but are subject to income tax. Any income beyond the annual cap is not subject to Social Security tax. A Social Security statement does not provide a meaningful overview of someone's financial status the way a tax return does.

Further, the form requires a tax return or transcript.

bbutterfly, you may need to go to a local IRS office to get the transcripts. When you order over the phone they are going to want you to provide the adjusted gross income figure from your tax return for identification purposes. If you don't have a copy of your return, then you likely don't know what your AGI was. You won't need to know the AGI if you go to an IRS office because you can show identification to the IRS agent.

I've ordered tax transcripts over the phone several times and they have NEVER asked for AGI. They asked for name, ss number, address, etc.

Thanks for all the information. I will call the IRS and then find a local office if necessary for I don't have my AGI's.
