I am planning once I have my K1 Visa to take a greyhound bus down to Arizona uggh 2 days 16hrs on a crappy bus, but it saves more money for the wedding and you dont have to pay to check your bag or have weight limits on them! Yay! lol... As I am trying to bring as much of my stuff in our 4 suitcases as possible :D

Anyways my question is are you allowed to POE by bus or do you have to go on an Airplane? Cause I have a two hour layover in Detroit once I cross into the US but will that be enough time to get my Visa delt with?

Anyone have any experience with this?

What POE is the bus going to stop at? If you know which one or can find out I would call that POE and ask them if they do K-1 visas for bus passengers. If you don't have enough time at the POE stop the bus may leave without you. POE can take an hour or more to do the K-1 visa and thats by car.

POE is at the border, not inside the US. You should ask with the bus line about where you will enter the US and what, if any, accomodations they make for those who must get off the bus at the border.

LOL... well it's Tucson ya a long time on the bus, and I have my 6 year old son too lol... good thing he loves his DS video game thing and I will have lots of batteries :D But it saves us like $500 on the tickets and then my fiancee doesnt have to drive to Phoenix and it just overall would be easier.

It looks like where the bus crosses is in Detroit. I'd be taking a Greyhound bus.

I guess I will try calling the bus company but there phone staff seem like the NVC with scripted answers...

The biggest problem is time spent at the border. I PoEd a few times with busloads of Canadian tourists going skiing in Minnesota. It usually took a good 30-45 minutes to cross the border, and this was pre-9/11, when all CBP really had to do was walk down the aisle eyeballing everybody's birth certificate [no passports required back then !]. I don't know what the process is like now, but it's probably more time consuming.

And that's where the question mark comes in. My PoE in July 2009 with my K-1 visa took over 90 minutes. That's a little longer than average but 45 minutes is far from unheard of. You need to check with the bus line to ensure that they can accommodate your extra delay at the border while they process your K-1. You definitely need to contact both the bus line and the border station you'll be PoE'ing through. Let us know what you find out.

DON'T PANIC

On the flip side, my POE took no more than 15 minutes. I was in a car with my husband, no bus situation to deal with, but everything went lightening fast. It really depends on what time of day and what day of the week you will be traveling. Early in the morning is a lot better than mid day, and Sunday for example is a lot better than Friday. Do you have a date and time set for travel?

And just for a not-so-funny comparison, I went to Phoenix last weekend for the Nascar race, and we flew. And we just live in Colorado... But I did drive down from Ontario when I moved. It was long but worth it.

My poe was about 30-45 Minutes long. It was nice and the border crossing was super small which ended up being a plus. They did not do the visa process very often so she was going off a guide. very nice people.

Look into what POE you will be crossing at and give them a quick call. I called the massena Ny border the day I was poeing to make sure that they processed visas.

It is because of the route I was on.... seems like if you go to dc it cuts 2 hours off the time. I just did a greyhound search from Toronto to Hagerstown and it said 18 hours but if you do Toronto to Washington it say 15 hours.

Pfft. I've taken Greyhound TWICE from Alberta to Georgia. That's 3 freakin' days on a bus. I will put up with Security Theatre (what the TSA performs at the airport) GLADLY to avoid another trip like that. UGH.

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.

They usually have a bus crossing the border every 2 hours or so... you might be able to book on one bus to the border, and then catch the next one going through, just go give yourself enough time.... Just a suggestion. Oh and Valium and a bottle of wine.. HAHHAHAH

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.
