Hi,

I often see the word "touch" in the forum. But I never quite understand what it means and how you find out if your petition or document is "touched".

I have gotten NOA1 in mid September and now in the stage of the long wait.

Of course, I often visit the site of Immigration service to see my status but it just says "Initial Review". I never see the word, "touch" there.

Could you please explain what "touch" means and where you can find it.

Thank you so much!! :)

Hi,

once you are on the USCIS page where you can check your case status, look to the left, there is a box where it says "sign-up for case status" and a sign-in right above it. You can sign up for free and enter your receipt numbers from the NOA1s. Once you entered those you can even select if you would like to receive a txt message or email if there are any changes for an application. Also, every time you sign in you can see a field "last update" - that's the touch people mention.

But, keep on mind, USCIS does not update this right away, like in my case, I have touches on 10/26, 11/9 but totally unexpected received my biometrics appointment in the mail today saying date of decision was 11/15.

Also, a touch is whenever your application was held in someone's hand, it does not automatically mean that you will receive a letter from them, it could also be something simple like the shifting of your file from one employee to another or putting it in a file cabinet.

Good luck on your journey!!

M.

It basically means someone picked your file up and looked at it. Everytime they do that they scan a barcode on it. As mentioned before.. it doesnt mean progress necessarily.. just means its not someones desk-pillow anymore :)

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

Sometimes I worry that my file wont ever be touched, its fallen off the file cabinet....into the black hole behind the file cabinet never to be seen again...lol just a little humor to pass the time.....or is the file cabinet itself the black hole of petitions
