I have been looking at importing my vehicle, which doesnt have a hitch, so I would have to put one on then rent a trailer.

Or ...

I have been flirting with the idea of renting a vehicle (with a hitch) then getting the trailer. ( A trailer is looking under $500 for a weeks rental, not to bad )

I seem to be getting lost on finding a company that will allow a pick up in Canada, and a drop off in USA. Does anyone know one ?

I may have to go uhaul full truck rental, but those are so big Im afraid to drive one.

Im also afraid to fly, because here the airport customs is on our side, I have heard it takes about an hour to process, and the customs guys dont let you into the security area until 2 hours before ones flight, and Im worried that I could miss the flight due to unforseen issues. ( I worry alot )

So right now, I am just exploring all my options.

Uhaul rents hitches and trailers they will load the car for you and hitch it up as well as put the hitch on your car. You can pick up in Canada and drop off in the US.

This is what I did when I moved. We ended up renting a truck with hitch and hauling my things in the truck and towing the car.

Looks like renting a truck is around $2500 for a week. Thats kinda what Im trying to avoid. I figured if I rented a car .. maybe $500 plus gas and kms .. plus the traler rental @ about but less than $500. Thats a significant savings.

We drove from ottawa to nebraska - they quoted us that same price but we didnt pay it, when we dropped off the truck we payed much less than what was quoted.

We researched a lot of things and renting a car turned into renting a truck because most cars cant haul another car. Then if we were renting a truck we might as well of gone with Uhaul and had my stuff safely locked in the back. Then it turned into why not drive and just do ABF and have my stuff shipped but that would of been very hard on the car mile wise and taken longer to deal with than picking up the truck and leaving same day. Much easier going through the border as well. Most rental companys wanted tons extra to cross the border in it or wanted major insurance payments or just said no you cant.

99.999% of the Customs are on the Cdn side (I know they are not in Saskatoon) Lot of people fly down with no problems at all

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Have you considered using a company like ABF Upack? Then you dont have to worry about a trailer or a truck. Also I dont think any car rental company is going to let you rent a car and leave it in the US. I say this bc I had a hard enough time trying to find one that would let us drive one into the us and bring it back! Also the rule with BP is technically an american can not drive into the US in a canadian rental car and a canadian can not drive to canada in an american rental. Im sure they wave this periodically, but.... Yeah we were looking at renting a uhaul and it was going to be around 2500.00! ABF Upack was only going to charge us 1600.00 from our door in Calgary AB to our door in Hallsville MO! Way cheaper and we didnt have to worry about fuel or the liability of having our stuff stolen while in transit. Good luck.

How close are you to the US border?

Another option is for your fiance to rent a vehicle (truck/van/car, whatever)in a border city in the US, drive it into Canada, pick up you and whatever you are transporting, drive everything back across the border and drove to your US address, then return the vehicle to the US local office. My husband did this - flew into Detroit, rented a van at the airport, drove to Chatham, Ontario, to pick me up, re-crossed into the US with me and the cats and my K-1 and then drove to Georgia, dropping the van rental Enterprise) off at our local Enterprise office. It was a lot easier and a lot cheaper than trying to find a vehicle to rent in Canada that would allow a US drop off. We moved my other belongings with a regular moving company having looked at renting a U-Haul and doing it ourselves then deciding it was just going to be too big and too nerve wracking a job, especially if something went wrong along the way.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
