I see the Students in the UK are at it again - making a mess of the cities and destroying public property.

Seems to me that the responsible students should challenge the fervent idiots otherwise any legitimate public sympathy will melt away..

I saw it from both sides - in 1968 I was fighting for law and order against the student revolution of that year - and then in 1976 I was a student myself - but no revolution for me so I was only an ersatz punk. It seems the trouble makers are the same crowd we saw at school - the ones who were doing cigs (drugs now) behind the bike sheds at age 13 - the John Lennon types - as compared to the ones who were working hard and doing it right. The druggies and under age sex types all went on to sales jobs or art college. The 'straights' went on to finance or engineering

42 years later things haven't changed much in the student world.

Throw the bums out so the ones who want to work can get on with it. My curmudgeoning on this subject is not the result of age as I felt the same when I was up against them in the streets of Leeds when I was 19.

Why do you hate John Lennon ?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Why do you hate John Lennon ?

I don't hate as I am not American. I frequently dislike. He hated everyone except Yoko and he hated her sometimes - he even left her and lived with that other one.

He was pretty nasty character according to the books on the subject but he thought he was justified because of what 'life had done to him'

Not keen on him at all and it's not just coz he was a Lancastrian. They aren't all dislikable.

Very good musician though

Revolting Students
If they're revolting, what did they first volt? Are they studying electrical engineering, perhaps?

By the same principle, I was tired yesterday and am tired again today, which makes me re-tired.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

When I heard the word "revolting" I could only think of this song from the 60's

Allan Sherman (RIP) - "You Went The Wrong Way Old King Louie"

You Went The Wrong Way, Old King Louie

Louis the Sixteenth was the King of France in 1789.

He was worse than Louis the Fifteenth.

He was worse than Louis the Fourteenth.

He was worse than Louis the Thirteenth.

He was the worst since Louis the First.

King Louis was living like a king, but the people were living rotten.

So the people, they started an uprising which they called the

French Revolution, and of course you remember their battle cry,

which will never be forgotten:

You went the wrong way, Old King Louie.

You made the population cry.

'Cause all you did was sit and pet

With Marie Antoinette

In your place at Versailles.

And now the country's gone kablooie.

So we are giving you the air.

That oughta teach you not to

Spend all your time fooling 'round

At the Folies Bergere.

If you had been a nicer king,

We wouldn't do a thing,

But you were bad, you must admit.

We're gonna take you and the Queen

Down to the guillotine,

And shorten you a little bit.

You came the wrong way, Old King Louie.

And now you ain't got far to go.

Too bad you won't be here to see

That great big Eiffel Tower,

Or Brigitte Bardot.

To you King Louie we say fooey.

You disappointed all of France.

But then what else could we expect

From a king in silk stockings

And pink satin pants.

You filled your stomach with chop suey.

And also crepe suzettes and steak.

And when they told your wife Marie

That nobody had bread, she said

"Let 'em eat cake."

We're gonna take you and the Queen

Down to the guillotine,

It's somewhere in the heart of town.

And when that fella's through

With what he's gonna do,

You'll have no place to hang your crown.

You came the wrong way Old King Louie.

Now we must put you on the shelf.

That's why the people are revolting, 'cause Louie,

You're pretty revolting yourself!

jeez that shook my fillings loose..

she is a grade 'A' loony and suckering the suckers

I can hear this sort of gibberish from the alkies in downtown Seattle any Saturday night

Paul McCartney does nice music though

Nice guy Paul

Not like Heather... he could have got one with two legs for the same money

Let's take a YOUTUBE poll - Imagine - 4,140,214 hits; Band On The Run - 532,065 hits

The OP is entitled to his preference (elevator music?)

but I have to say that the music of Paul & John very much

reflected their individual personalities - Paul was non-

political while John was often (but not always) very

political and disturbingly edgy. I liked both, but I have to

say the stronger emotions were always evoked by John,

in the way that the troubled characters of Shakespeare's

tragedies were forever more memorable and quoted

than the characters in his comedies (which were also

great theater).

I wasn't pleased by John's decision to give Yoko's "music"

alternate tracks on "Double Fantasy" yet by the quality of

his work I was willing to forgive him.

Thinking of the songs that were memorable on this album,

they were introspective and very personal and musically

works of genius. More of the same for "Imagine" which

didn't have the Yoko only tracks (good).

If I had to have "Band On The Run" as my only music

on a desert island or "Imagine," the latter would win hands down.

John Lennon's biggest pet peeve?

That Paul McCartney wrote "Yesterday".

Regarding the Lennon/McCartney team as part of the Beatles,

the whole was definitely greater than the sum of it's parts.

After the breakup, I felt that Paul's creative path was just trying to be

a commercial success (and that he was, but still fell short of Beatle popularity).

John on the other hand was madly in love with a wife that the world

perceived as the DEVIL. His feelings toward her were often ambivalent but in

the end he recognized her importance to him. When he got shot everything

seemed to have been coming together in both his artistic and family life.

His public "persona" was definitely that of a raving lunatic but a lunatic that

we all loved dearly, much as the brooding Hamlet was loved.

I didn't always subscribe to his politics, but he was a force of nature that couldn't be ignored.

15 year old protesting about university fees ? That's what I call thinking ahead which is always good, or just looking for an excuse to throw a dart in a police horse's eye which is bad

They should go back to their bedsits and clean their fridge's out

I have another bee in my bonnet now - this Korea thing where we are sailing up and down practising to invade and saying we are not doing any provoking. I reckon that should be the politics forum. Off there now
