Hi guys,i just reached to USA today morning.First i went through the UC citizens/GC holder line.I gave my passport and the sealed envelope to the immigration officer. After that he took my fingerprints & picture and he put arrival stamp in my passport. Then he directed me into the passport control office.Over there another immi officer has opened my sealed envelope and after that he took my sign & fingerprint on one form and asked me 2 questions. They did not put any I-551 stamp in my passport.I have only the visa page which was issued my consulate. There is a line in VISA stamp which says, "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR".So should they do put any I-551 stamp in passport? They forgot or what? Or is it fine??

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Er Neal

No worries, you are fine. I had the same situation before, you will get a welcome letter together with your receipt number in the first 2 weeks, that you can always check your CASE STATUS online, after that you will get your green card in the mail before the expiration of your I-551 stamp in passport.

if you have any other question feel free to ask

Hi, but they did not put the I-551 stamp in my passport.I am talking about the following type of stamp. Do they put that type of stamp in CR1?

Look at the "arrival stamp" it should say "admitted on 11-23-10" and then it should say CR-1 and the date of expiration.

Hi i have seen the arrival stamp, it only shows the admitted date Nov-23-2010 and there is not written CR1 and the exp date. Have you got the above(above image) stamp in your passport?

Neal,

IMO, normally they will put a I-551 stamp with 1 year validity.

The visa page you're talking about is the one issued from the Consulate which will normally expire under 6 months time and it is just single entry visa. Once you touch the U.S soil, this consulate issued visa gets expired.

Whereas, I-551 stamp authorizes traveling outside the U.S, eligibility to work etc. and it is temporary green card until the plastic card arrives.

Plastic card will normally arrive in 3 to 6 weeks time. If you get a Welcome letter before that, you can track the plastic crad in the USCIS website with its Receipt#.

I would pull others who experienced similar situation like you, Neal,

No I didn't get the above image, I only got the CR-1 written down and the exp date. Let's just wait and hopefully you will get the GC with no problems. I am still waiting for mine. It has been a little less than 4 weeks since I arrived.
