When my husband last spoke with USCIS he was advised I could visit for 3 months at maximum, but all over the boards here Ive seen 6 months. I would love love love to stay 6 months! However, I dont want to do it and find out later that we were advised incorrectly. Is there anyone out there who can link me where it says on the government website that I am allowed to stay for 6 months? We would appreciate it a lot. So far all ive found is a lot of vague statements that do not have an official amount of time I can stay :/ thanks a bunch!

Here you go:

"Canadian visitors are generally granted a stay in the U.S. for up to six months at the time of entry. Requests by any foreigner to extend or adjust a stay must be made prior to expiry to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service. All Canadians are reminded that U.S. law requires all foreigners to qualify for the desired stay and purpose at the time of their intial entry. A visitor who intends to live, work or study in the U.S. may be permanently barred from the U.S."

I got this from: http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/canadians.asp

In other words, we are not to spend more than 50% of a year in the US. Before my POE, I was close to that mark since I had visited my fiancé many times in the first 9 months of the year. I was told that I needed to be careful; to make sure that I didn't go over the 50% mark.

Hope that helps and good luck!

I want to add a quick note to this. Yes we are allowed to stay for 6 months however if you come to close to this time frame you may have problems later. I know of someone who has a US spouse who has been refused entry twice now due to having spent 6 months in the US the previous year. They have proven ties to Canada but have been turned away twice now. I wouldn't like to see anyone else go through this. Keep a good record of the amount of time you are there, they know how long you have been away from your passport info.

All the best
