I have NO FEAR of terrorism. Zero. Nada. None.

The chance that I or one of my loved ones will die in a terrorist attack are so miniscule that, if I took those odds serious by any means, should not be driving a car anymore, as it's ten-thousand times more likely that I die in a horrible car crash caused by a drunk driver than by the hands of a terrorist. I still drive my cars.

In fact, I also ride motorcycles, although my chances of getting killed on a motorcycle are about 120 times higher than getting killed in a car accident. Won't stop me.

I was a private pilot and race car driver for many years. The odds of me dying by going down in heavy weather or crashing into a concrete wall at 160mph are thousands of times higher than getting killed in a terrorist attack. I never thought twice about that when climbing into the cockpit.

My daughter rides horses. The chance of breaking her neck, Christopher Reeve style, are thousands of times higher than getting hurt in a terrorist attack. She still rides horses.

If fear would -- or should -- dictate our lives, we couldn't live in California (what if an earthquake swallows us alive?), couldn't ride moutain bikes, go parachute jumping, surfing, diving, and couldn't do many other things that make life worth living. What the word terrorism entails is causing terror, fear among others. I won't let them instill fear in me!

I live as long as life allows me to live it, and I want to be able to enjoy life and its challenges. A fat black guy who dropped out of High School and shoves his middle finger into my you know what under the pretense of safety doesn't fit that picture.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

bingo.

These days people seem to fear everything.

They're afraid that the local butcher is going to give them e-coli, and they're afraid their next door neighbor might be a pedophile.... It's gotten truly out of hand these days...

Strip searches, young boys and Mormons should not be mentioned in the same sentence. I knew it was just a matter of time before all the preists and pastors quit and get a job for TSA. This is just too good to believe.

Obama wants to make the TSA handle the prostate exams under Obamacare. I suppose he will throw in pelvic exams for women and then we will all be safer AND healthier.

meanwhile anyone can get on a crowded train. some will say that a train explosion is different. it wouldn't be different after a few explosions. bombs that don't explode are news for weeks so imagine a few trains exploding. trains are wide open. so what then? would the gov't do the same thing at train stations (scanners, pat downs)? one 9 car train at 5pm in the SF BAY AREA carries over a thousand people. imagine the effects. to me, this shows how stupid terrorists are - trains are wide open yet terrorists largely but not entirely ignore them. terrorists are out to disrupt normal life, scare cilivians, put people in a panic yet they ignore a great target - STUPID! if i were a terrorist, i'd target trains nonstop. this would disrupt daily life for a lot more people than targetting the few that fly. with just a few attacks on the NYC transit system could shut it and the city down - people would be affraid to get on. no idea why terrorists largely leave this easy target alone.

the security around flying given other types of transportation attacks are relatively low make air security seem over the top.

I think there is a missed opportunity here. You almost have it, though, so maybe this was your original intention. If the flight screening and prostate or pelvic exam were conducted at the same time a significant portion of the population would benefit. The cost of this two for one approach to the provider would be less as should be the cost to the beneficiary. Airlines already collect fees and taxes, so they could just add an "exam fee" and pass that on to the government. Of course the fee would also include an amount sufficient to increase the profits of the airline. Nothing else specific comes to mind just now, but there may be other possibilities.

Just a thought :)

not to mention trains travel under the bay and go to the airport so lots of unchecked people with big suitcases which could easily be packed full of explosives to explode while the train is under the bay. it would bust the tunnel, water comes in, the transit system is damaged for years.

i'm not sure, but NYC transit system probably travels under water too.

Terrorists have attacked trains, with devastating results.

London on 7 July 2005 - 52 dead , 700 injured. Attributed to al Quaeda inspired Islamic terror cell.

Madrid on 11 March 2004 - 191 dead, over 2000 injured. Attributed to al Quaeda inspired Islamic terror cell.

Israel has gone through devastating attacks on buses, dozens of them over the years.

There was actually talk at one point of putting metal detector technology on the entrances to each bus. I.e. , you would board the bus and go through a built in metal detector. The costs and technical challenges to make it work were considered impractical. And the idea pretty much went away after the security wall along the West Bank dramatically decreased such terror attacks.

I ride a commuter rail (Metra) here in Chicago. There are periodic warnings to passengers to "If you see something, say something". While I'm sure most passengers totally ignore these urgings to beware of their surroundings, I don't. Trains are definitely targets.

they are easy targets so why not more attacks on them? it would be beyond easy to load a suitcase full of explosives.

i did say that trains have been attacked, but as easy as the target is, the number of attacks have been quite small.

if the ultra easy targets, that would still cause great disruption to daily life, aren't being hit, is the threat at the airport as great as it has been pumped up to be? sure there was 1 underwear bomb, 1 shoe bomber, but considering over 800 planes take off daily from just one major US airport, the number of attacks or attempted attacks are very low. some might say that is because of airport security. i tend to disagree since terrorists aren't even going after the easy targets in the US.

yeah, the signs on trains are a joke.... no one talks to anyone on the trains and buses out here. people would be afraid to say "is that your suitcase?" america is a "mind your own business" country or a "leave me alone" country.... we know more about strangers online than we do our neighbors. no one is going to say "is that your suitcase" before it blows up.
