Maybe when gasoline is $10 gallon the investors will notice? A gasoline engine may always outperform another fuel source, but what happens when the gasoline becomes a rare commodity? That's the problem with alternative fuels, not many give a damn about it now because at the moment it appears to be a minor problem. It will be a long road to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. There will never suddenly be a day when there is cheaper more efficient replacement for gasoline. It will take decades.

Indeed. Which is all the more reason to develop viable alternatives now. We can't wait until the oil has dried up - the rest of the world doesn't. It's all about what role America wants to play in the 21st century. Are we looking to continue to be a leader or are we comfortable relying and becoming dependent on that which other nations develop?

Its not even about the oil drying up, its about sustaining a healthy economy. Oil will cause all economies to crash long before it runs out. All it will take is a 3-4% difference between supply and demand to crash our entire system. This is something that may occur in the next few years even.

We have God's word that can't happen.

A lot of this has to do with it being treated as something that can hold value. Commodity trading is really annoying. Just look at the price of gold... People put their money into things like oil when they get scared OR if they think something bad is going to happen to the stock piles.... Either way, oil should be somehere around $25 a barrel, but here we are with it hovering between $75-$90 the past year...
