The Second Mexican War

By Lawrence Auster

FrontPageMagazine.com | February 17, 2006

The Mexican invasion of the United States began decades ago as a spontaneous migration of ordinary Mexicans into the U.S. seeking economic opportunities. It has morphed into a campaign to occupy and gain power over our country—a project encouraged, abetted, and organized by the Mexican state and supported by the leading elements of Mexican society.

It is, in other words, war. War does not have to consist of armed conflict. War can consist of any hostile course of action undertaken by one country to weaken, harm, and dominate another country. Mexico is waging war on the U.S. through mass immigration illegal and legal, through the assertion of Mexican national claims over the U.S., and through the subversion of its laws and sovereignty, all having the common end of bringing the southwestern part of the U.S. under the control of the expanding Mexican nation, and of increasing Mexico’s political and cultural influence over the U.S. as a whole.

Cultural imperialism

We experience Mexico’s assault on our country incrementally—as a series of mini-crises, each of which calls forth ever-renewed debates and perhaps some tiny change of policy. Because it has been with us so long and has become part of the cultural and political air we breathe, it is hard for us to see the deep logic behind our “immigration problem.” Focused as we are on border incursions, border enforcement, illegal alien crime, guest worker proposals, changes of government in Mexico City, and other such transient problems and events—all of them framed by the media’s obfuscation of whether or not illegal immigration’s costs outweigh its benefits and by the maudlin script of “immigrant rights”—we don’t get the Big Picture: that the Mexican government is promoting and carrying out an attack on the United States.

Another reason we miss what’s happening is that our focus is on the immigrants as individuals. Thus our leaders talk about illegal immigrants as “good dads,” “hard working folks” seeking to better their lives and their family’s prospects. In fact, this is not about individual immigrants and their families, legal or illegal. It is about a great national migration, a nation of people moving into our nation’s land, in order to reproduce on it their own nation and people and push ours aside.

Thus, in orchestrating this war on America, the Mexican state is representing the desires of the Mexican people as a whole.

What are these desires?

(1) Political revanchism—to regain control of the territories Mexico lost to the U.S. in 1848, thus avenging themselves for the humiliations they feel they have suffered at our hands for the last century and a half;

(2) Cultural imperialism—to expand the Mexican culture and the Spanish language into North America; and especially the USA.

(3) Economic parasitism—to maintain and increase the flow of billions of dollars that Mexicans in the U.S. send back to their relatives at home every year, a major factor keeping the chronically troubled Mexican economy afloat and the corrupt Mexican political system cocooned in its status quo.

These motives are shared by the Mexican masses and the elites. According to a Zogby poll in 2002, 58 percent of the Mexican people believed the U.S. Southwest belongs to Mexico, and 57 percent believed that Mexicans have the right to enter the United States without U.S. permission. Only small minorities disagreed with these propositions.

Interesting choice of words there - "small minorities". If 57% of the Mexican people believe that Mexicans have the right to enter the US without US permission, then it stands to reason that 43% either disagree with that proposition or have no opinion on the proposition.

Assuming that the author chose his words carefully, that in turn means that a very large percentage of that 43% have no opinion on the matter.

Surely, it can not be alleged that the Mexican people as a whole are at war against us when more than 2 out of 5 of all Mexicans either do not support an invasion of the US or have no opinion on it at all?

That said, I do not doubt the article's argument that the elites governing Mexico see the massive flow of Mexicans into our country as a "means to an end" - reconquista. I just don't buy that the individuals who are immigrating are all part of some enemy force. The articles arguments, if taken as a whole, seem to point to that conclusion - that all Mexican immigrants are the soldiers of an enemy force. Unfortunately, the evidence does not bear that out at all.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

What is the real Orwellian Nightmare of the Future ? The "long war" or the "race war"?

In my opinion, any movement seeking to restore America must logically reject racism. Neither the Minutemen project nor the Aztlan movement fit into this. They are both insane.

In my opinion, any movement seeking to restore America must logically reject racism.

What does racism have to do with this article? It is mostly about another foreign nation (Mexico) blatantly usurping the our laws and sovereignty for its own benefit. Is that being a good neighbor?

In conclusion...I personally blame the ruling elite in our country for selling out the American people for the benefit of their benefactors in Big Business and to the detriment of our own citizens. This never would be allowed to occur if certain people weren't getting very rich from this joke.

I totally agree with the conclusion of the article. While the "we are the world" liberals scoff at the notion of an American national identity...a lot of us don't and it has nothing to do with racism.

But for us to do this, we must recognize that the Mexicans are not coming here merely as individuals seeking economic opportunities, but as a nation, expressing their national identity and collective will. Even more important, we must revive our own largely forgotten and forbidden sense that we ourselves are a nation, not just a bunch of consumers and bearers of individual rights, and have the right to defend our nation as a nation.

dang pj, do you really feel this way? or do you do this just to stir the pot?

let me assure, as an american citizen of mexican descent, there is NO master plan by mexico to take over the US. The politicians down there are just as stoopid as the ones we have up here; ie, no way in hell they smart enough to pull this one off.

that is one.

two. those that have migrated north have NO desire live in country(this case Mexico) they just migrated from if things are the same as before. hell, they all move up to canada if the USA turned into Mexico north. lol

three: why the would mexico want to take over the US of A? do you have any idea how tough of a job being superpower is? plus, manage all the folks that live here? nahhhh. they, mexican politicians, prefer that the americans keep being rich and powerful thus providing a safety valve for that country nad the politicians get to keep their power.

geez, these 'be afraid of the immigrant' groups sure make me laugh at times.

immigration is a problem that needs to be dealt with, but dayum pj(as shon would say) chill a bit on the rhetoric will ya? :luv:

Yes racism has a lot to do with this issue actually. This article echoes the infamous rhetoric of a significant extremist like Tanto, founder of NumbersUSA (an anti-immigration group), or a Glenn Spencer, founder of the American Patrol Report and a supporter of the Minutemen Project, who forecasted a second Mexican-American war in 2003.

"While Spencer's prophecy was never fulfilled, his open advocacy of a race war certainly raises suspicions about his true agenda. These suspicions only intensify when one considers the fact that Spencer's operation is financed by Tanton. (...)We contend that there is a conspiracy to radicalize the Minutemen project, subvert efforts to restore America's border integrity, and manufacture a politically expedient race war. (...)

"The danger is not that immigration levels are debated by Americans, but that the debate is controlled by bigots and extremists whose views are anathema to the ideals on which this country was founded"

the article is good on some parts, but the

"Cultural imperialism—to expand the Mexican culture and the Spanish language into North America; and especially the USA."

is BS.. spanish language has been in USA since the cubans and puertorricans came to NY and Miami...

although the source, again, a biased right wing-supremacist agenda website, dont believe me peejay? Im not attackin whitey again, but read the other articles, how are they criticizing 'low standards' in universities for black people, and others..

legal immigration? from Mexico? lol.. Mexico I guess has one of the smallest legal immigration rates.. before this Presidential period some illegals could pay 'the fine' to legalize their status, but I doubt there's gonna be another exodus like in the Reagan administration with his amnesty, giving green cards to any dude with a letter that said they worked in a certain farm picking oranges.. find out the requirements for Mexico to go into USA..

a) a very difficult to obtain tourist visa

B) Mexico doesnt enter into the lottery program

c) due to the illegal immigration rates, its not favored into the workers program (there are not many scientists)

so the statement of "Mexico is waging war on the U.S. through mass immigration illegal and legal", its an exaggeration.. I'd take the legal out.. or.. don't you want me to stay in the Estados Unidos, amigo?

Race war??? I think the title of the article was more metaphor than reality. Was the Cold War a war? It certainly wasn't about race. Each side certainly had its own agenda. Unfortunately people can see what they want to see in anything and trump the race card when they think it gives them the moral high ground.

As far as intolerance...are we supposed to tolerate illegal immigration or be branded racists? It isn't Canadians, Peruvians, Ethiopians, or Cambodians that are the worst offenders when it comes to illegal immigration. Mexicans are the vast majority and Hispanics from the south are an even larger majority of illegals. I'm not making this up!

Actually, most of what was in the article isn't anything that hasn't already been said on such racist (*my sarcasm*) media outlets such as Lou Dobbs Tonight on CNN or on the FOX network. The article is just a condensed version of what has already been reported on those mainstream outlets. My own home state of Texas has joined the list of states that are sick and tired of what is happening at the border with Mexico. But I guess our Gov. Rick Perry is a racist and intolerant too.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0215/p01s04-ussc.html

NumbersUSA an extremist organization? I have no idea who or what Tanto / Tanton is, but Roy Beck is Executive Director of this well respected organization. It is just as respected as the Center for Immigration Studies and F.A.I.R. that are not anti-immigrant, but for responsible immigration. All three organizations are sought out on media outlets when immigration issues are highlighted. Just because someone doesn't agree with their opinions or agenda, that doesn't make them racist or anti-immigrant organizations.

Stiring the pot? When I have witnessed how screwed up US immigration policy and practice is, why should I just grin and bear it?

I take it personal when I (an American born US citizen) cannot have my foreign relatives visit us temporarily in our home in America because they cannot prove they won't immigrate illegally. But illegal aliens are even now being considered for amnesty in the US Congress and thousands of O.T.M.'s (other than Mexicans) are routinely given free passes at the US / Mexican border after sneaking across. With the promise that they will show up for deportation hearings (but 90%+ don't). What is wrong with this picture?

Yes Pedroh, you have just as much right to be here as my foreign wife and stepdaughter. You met all the legal requirements that they did.

It is my hope that the things I b*tch about benefit your foreign relatives and friends as well as my foreign relatives and friends. And that is that there will be credibility of immigration law enforcement to the extent that any nationality (barring terrorists) can be given a temporary tourist visa without the pesumption that they can easily choose to openly live and work here in the USA illegally. I think such a goal would be a benefit to the vast majority of citizens and legal permanent residents.

Adios

Well, if you'd take a step back and consider all illegal means of immigration i/o just the illegal crossing of the Rio Grande, you'd probably find that as a percentage of overall immigrants, many a nationality will stick out like a sore thumb when it comes to huge percentages of illegal immigration amongst their folks. There are many ways of immigrating illegally. And there are many nationals doing so in rather large numbers.
