I have my interview next week in Bangkok and was wondering if you still need to notarize the Affidavit I-864. The forms I downloaded from the NVC website make no mention of using a notary anymore. The other two I have done in the past all had to be notarized. I was wondering if there has been a rule change about this. Thanks.

To be on the safe side, I would have it notarized even if it does not mention it.

Yes is a good idea to use a notary, also check with the Consulate there to be sure they I-864, some will only use the I-134 form.

No, you don't need to notarize your I-864 anymore. This is one of the recent changes.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Agreed...you do not need to notarize. I believe it says that in the instructions.

I-130F:

13 Feb. 2006 - sent I-130; 14 Feb. 2006 - I-130 received at Nebraska

28 Feb. 2006 - NOA-1

2 Mar. 2006 - RFE for payment problem; 3 Mar. - corrected & mailed; 6 Mar. - USCIS rec'd payment

12 June 2006 - APPROVED! (NOA-2)

20 June 2006 - case number assigned

3 July 2006 - DS-3032 and AOS Fee bill generated; 6 July - emailed DS-3032 Choice of Agent

13 July 2006 - Received DS-3032 (UK)

14 July 2006 - DS-3032 mailed to NVC

17 July 2006 - DS-3032 and AOS Fee received in mail

19 July 2006 - mailed Fee bill to NVC; recieved at NVC St. Louis facility 20 July

An Affidavit of Support does not need to be notarized. This law was revised early this year... in April I believe. Save yourself the time and money.

Actually, I just checked the type of affidavit I should use, and it turns out that our man who answered previously, is correct. I should be using the affidavit 1-134, which it seems does require notarizing.

Usually for K-1/K-3 nonimmigrant visas it is I-134 and for CR-1/IR-1 it is I-864. I-134 still requires to be notarized while I-864 does not need to be notarized. What process are you going through?

Please double check, for I-130 it is usually I-864 and for I-129F it is usually I-134.

For the CR-1 you MUST use the I-864. Only if you are interviewing for the K-3 would the I-134 be used.
