Were you buying it for your grandma?

 are you insinuating that only old women wear that?

Yes.

you have lots to learn, grasshopper.

Charles, are you implying that you have detailed knowledge of perfumes?

i'm implying that your belief that only old women wear that is rediculous.

I bought it from these people. Look at their feedback, there are a couple other fakes noted. I put in a claim with Paypal.

Fake Chanel No. 5 on Ebay

Here is how I could tell....

Chanel # 5 - How to protect yourself from fakes

You are quite the shopper. So that's a batteryless flashlight and now fake perfume. I guess you better stick to Macys and Home Depot in the future. LOL

Ok, old women, the very retro, and those committing a faux pas.

Actually I used to think that it was an old woman type fragrance and never even took time to see what it smelled like until a friend gave me a bottle as a gift and of course I had to use it then and I have to say the scent is beautiful and works well with my body chemistry and sometimes those things can be iffy.

Whats funny is it's something I never put much thought into until this post came up ...it was just a nice tiny bottle of a famous perfume...

After checking to see if it was genuine...it was...I checked pricing on it and about fell out of my chair OMG!

I'm quite sensitive to many perfumes so there are very few I can tolerate and it's not something I've ever paid much attention to.

My experiences with ebay have been pretty mild - though I did have one guy send me a blatantly fake DVD, which I had him refund me for.

Though… and this should interest a lot of the people moving to the US. If you use ebay in your own country and move to the US - the process of transferring your account is deceptively difficult. There are instructions on how to do it, but you have to do it in a number of different places for it to work properly. I have a seller account and thought I had changed all my settings. I had - I put up three lots, 2 of which went through ebay.com and one which inexplicably listed through ebay.co.uk.

They are of course different companies, and the bastards kept sending me threatening emails to pay my seller fees (for like $2.25) or they would close my account and get the collections people involved. Unfortunately their system was set up in such a way that it prohibited me from actually making a payment - somehow I'd ended up with two accounts, so every time I tried to pay my bill the system told me I had a $0 balance. In the end I had to get my dad write them a UK as I kept hitting a wall with their customer service - which consists almost entirely of 'form letter' emails.

Item location: FAST PRIORITY MAIL SHIPPING, United States

hmm... one thing I have noticed is that people with legitimate business in the US always put their city and state when they put the item location. Usually fraudsters put an ambiguous location.

Also i've found that buying items from people themselves is better -- because some people have no problem taking a lower price for something they bought and never used.

I had bought a pair of Oakley sunglasses and made sure that the seller show me the certificate of authenticity beforehand, before I made the final purchse.

There are things to beware of but if you are the victim of fraud, report it right away!

I lost out on the flashlight but will be refunded through paypal for the perfume. From travelling the world I have become very aware of fakes. That's why I was suspicious when I opened the box. The label didn't look quite right.

I'm man enough to admit a mistake. :) And I hope others can learn from my them.

Agree with Charles there grasshopper, I love it, it is timeless and if it works with your body, smells great. Lots of these "newer" perfumes that these stars like to market are just basically worthless and all you are paying for is the name.

Another "old" one that you might like to try is the classic Private collection by Este Lauder, if you like good perfume instead of the run of the mill or cheapo stuff that is

And do you know that when you apply the fragrance to the inside of your wrists you never, and I mean never pat your wrists together??

And I am no spring chicken but neither am I an old lady,

Yes, if it works on your body, go ahead, wear it. I personally don't understand why anyone wears major-label perfumes. Why would I want anyone to know what I smelled like, where I bought my smell, and how much it cost? I'd rather smell like me, or maybe sometimes a boutique scent.

Chanel No. 5 is just so strong! My mom keeps a small Chanel No. 5 on her nightstand for the purpose of having a strong smell when the dogs overwhelm her with some, erm, gaseousness.

I also don't remember the last time anyone put perfume on their wrists. Old school!

Well, I am not an old woman, don't think I am committing a faux pas, and prefer classic to retro. But I do wear the same perfume as both my mother and my grandmother. Of course it's been around so long that when they first started wearing it, they weren't old either.

I will agree with that. And I really hate it when people put on so much perfume or cologne that you can smell them loooong after they have left the room. :dead:
