Joint sponsor question

My wife and I live South Korea and as such her current income will not be enough to satisfy the minimum income requirements for the i-864 because her employment will not continue when we move to the US. My brother has therefore offered act as my sponsor and we currently readying the forms we will need to send him to complete.

Seeing as my brother is going act as my sponsor on the i-864, when my brother fills in his section the i-864 should he check the box that asks if he is the only joint sponsor or the one asking if he is the first or second joint sponsor. If he checks the latter should my wife also file her own separate i-864?

The petitioner/US citizen is always the primary sponsor. Your wife must submit her own I-864 regardless of whether or not she is able to meet the income requirements, so she would check box "a" for "I am the petitioner." Your brother would be the only joint sponsor, so he would check "d" on his I-864 for "I am the only joint sponsor." Hope that helps!

One more thing, is your brother a US citizen (or lawful permanent resident)? He must be in order to act as a sponsor.

I am not sure, but I think he is a permanent green card holder. His wife is a US citizen.

If he holds a green card, have him submit a copy of the front and back as evidence of his status. Be certain his own personal income is what gets stated and documented, not the joint income of he and his spouse.
