don't know if this will work for the pic. I don't have a home computer and the ones at work won't let me do much since I don't have administrator privileges. But after about 30 mins of trying I got a flickr account with the picture on it.

As far as the drip coffee goes, sometimes I've had it served with the coffee cup sitting in a bowl of hot water. As it drips into the cup the whole arrangement sits in the hot water bath and it does help keep the cup and its contents warmer.

The place we usually eat breakfast at in Tan Phu district does that, but only if you order ca phe sua nong. It helps, but don't forget to wipe off the cup before drinking! Most places don't bother because most VN people drink the coffee on ice - ca phe sua da.

I think it would help more if they just heated up the condensed milk, since that's what really cools down the coffee.

I didn't see Popeye's when I was in Vietnam, but I tried KFC and Pizza Hut. They weren't the same as the ones in the US. Phuong's family in VN know I'm not a big fan of Vietnamese food, so they sometimes stop at KFC to get a chicken sandwich for me when they've got a big meal planned. They call it a "hamburger". I guess anytime you stuff meat between a couple slices of bread it qualifies as a "hamburger" to them. When I tried to explain that it wasn't a hamburger - it was a chicken sandwich - they disagreed. Apparently, an Oreo cookie is a "sandwich". It says so right on the package! Anyway, the chicken sandwiches had a half pound of mayonnaise in them.

I had both KFC and Pizza Hut in HCM city. I thought they tasted pretty damn close to the ones I get food from right here in WA. The coleslaw at KFC is usually the clincher. But, it tasted right on the money to me. In my opinion the Pizza hut that we had, tasted exactly the same as here too. My wife loved the seafood pizza and the pepperoni pizza that we got from the Pizza Hut in Parkson Plaza. She had never tasted pizza before. She could not believe that anything could taste like that. She also found the burgers at the Lotteria to be pretty tasty. I think she would faint if she saw the size of a Six Dollar Burger from Carl's JR.

I thought the oppisite, the cole slaw at KFC in HCMC is no where near the same. Everything else did taste the same, but the wings back in the US look like HUGE legs here in Vietnam  I wish they would get the shrimp burger back in the US, when I go to KFC I dont even order the chicken anymore because it is so small, and the slaw doesnt taste right but the shrimp burgers... hmmmm hmmmmm

Aside from the massive amounts of mayonnaise, the chicken sandwiches at the KFC in Hue are pretty good, at least at the restaurant where they bought them for me. I've seen a few of em there. Everyone looked at me like I was psychotic because I was wiping the mayonnaise off of the bun and chicken patty with a napkin!

There are four KFC's here in the town where I live, and all of them suck! The fried chicken is greasy and tastes like it was freezer burned. I have to drive about 20 minutes to another town to find a KFC that has decent chicken. Popeye's and Church's are pretty good here, though.

I remember LOOOOONG ago when KFC used to have buttered dinner roles instead of those damned buttermilk biscuits. Those were REALLY good!

I agree that it's sad. The local food is healthy. There's are reasons I lost 50 lbs in Vietnam, with the food being the main one.

Yep, I would have to definitely agree with you on that. Between the sweating and the lack of saturated fat laden foods, I managed to drop almost 10 pounds in 14 days. I will admit that I was also getting much more exercise, both during the day and at night... Har Har Har  I think the thing that made a huge difference for me, was that my wife was constantly feeding me many different kinds of fruit. When it came time for dinner or lunch, I found myself full with much smaller portions than I would normally eat. Twards the end of my stay there, she started to worry quite alot. She feared that I was not eating because I could not stomach the food that she was cooking for me. I am still to this day trying to make her believe that I loved everything that she cooked for me !!
