The only thing to consider is that it will be 5 years instead of 3 before you can apply to naturalise.

Good luck.

Hi I am here again now , some days before my wife slapped me and she wants to have my green card and keep it to herself. she wants to slave me in a free country. she keeps all my money i work hard to make that money and she gives me 10 dollars for my pocket money per month and when i buy something with those 10 dollars she says that its waste of money, while she buy what ever she wants to, i dont say anything on that .

My problem is that i dont have any relative here in US and i dont have any friend that can help me, I am in a miserable situation.

When i was in india i thaught when i will be with my wife everything will be fine and we will live a happy life i came United states with a true heart and love in me for my wife , i hate to think on divorce because i still love her, but i can not live in this kind of disrespect, it hurts.

When u hear beating drums far way away from u , u like the beat of those drums. but as soon as u go closer to those beating drums u hold ur ear and it hurts ur ears , when i was in india i thaught that drums in USA sounds so good and now i am in USA these drums hurting me, i have been crying all the night.

i feel like i am a slave here, i was like a prince in india.

all the day i am working while my wife is chatting with some of her online friends and watching movies.

she asking me to give her my green card so she can keep it.but i have hide my green card.

what does the law says about someone keeping id of someone???

do u think that she can have me deported ???

I have a 10 years green card

You are a lawful permanent resident. You can move out, you can divorce your wife, you can move to another State . . . none of this has ANY effect on your residency or your Green Card.

Don't give your wife your Green Card. Hide it. If she takes it, you will have to get a new one and that costs $310.

First, hide all your money and your valuables, then move out and file for divorce.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

She can't legally hold onto your green card nor can she "deport" you if you have legally obtained a 10 year green card. Get your own checking account, have your salary put into there, divorce her, and leave. Sorry about the troubles (F)

sorry to hear about your troubles, as all the previous posters have said your immigration status is safe, she cannot "deport you" but now you in order to naturalize you will have to wait for 5 years of permanent residence (meaning you must have had a green card for 5 years). DO NOT GIVE YOUR WIFE or anyone your greencard, it is issued to you by the US government it belongs to the US government and you.

definitely follow just bob's advice, to hide any money and valuables you may have outside your home.

i notice in your last post you mentioned you feel enslaved here and have no relatives but in india you were treated as a prince this begs the question can you not return to india? if you do not want to return permanently then perhaps for a short time to gather yourself and prepare for life in the USA as a single man?

best of luck to you!

My wife is 5 years younger younger than me and she was married before as well, and she stabbed in her ex husbands neck with a knife , i am sleepless these days because i dont feel safe. she might also try to stab me , i dont have any money to go back india because she takes all my money and keep it to herself. now next time when i have day off i will go to a bank and have my new account for myself. then my salary from work will come in my bank, actually these days we have a joint bank account and that was her idea to do that. as soon as my salary comes in the bank she takes it and spend all the money .i feel sorry for myself.

Thanks everyone for ur help.

when i talk to my friends in india online she says i am a gay talking to men and when i am talking to some female friends she says ohh maybe these women are ur girlfriends thats why i have stopped talking to anyone online, while she talk to her friends online and shes very hateful woman.

I am hiding my green card plus i will collect all my other documents in a safe place and hide them all then i will be prepared to run away from this home, I prefer to live in a jail instead of living in this home with this woman.

shes gets worse specially when shes drinking, and she also drink while driving. and she takes me outside in the car and she drive here and there on the road.i am alwasy afraid to sit in the car with her when shes drunk driving.

i better do something about this and inform police so they can spy on her and catch her.

Try to look for a shelter in your area. When you do go out, perhaps try to network with other Indian men or Nepali men in your community. It has been my experience that South Asians in America have a very tight knit community, and you may be able to find help there. I don't know what kind of area you live in, perhaps you can find a Hindu temple and seek help there. Don't be ashamed of your situation, and ask for help. It sounds like your life is at risk, and nothing is worth that.

I have a 10 years green card

I feel bad that you're in this situation; I hope you are able to get out of it soon. It may get worse before it gets better so your should protect yourself. If you wife has physically hurt you and left marks on your body you can file a restraining order with the police as long as you don't hit her back. Also even if she doesn't hit you, but threatens to do bodily harm you can get a restraining order. Once you do this she has to leave the house or you do. I would suggest that you leave because she might try to hurt you. You will might have to stay at a free shelter or pay for a cheap hotel in your area for like a week until you get a paycheck to rent a place. You should also get a safety deposit box at the bank to keep your green card and any other valuables there so no one can get it or find it. Or you can also lock them up at your work in a desk drawer. You're in a horrible situation, but you need to stay strong to make it out. Just stay focused and strive for a better future.

Wow!!! This is so hurtful to hear. You should know that the more you give in to her CONTROL the more control she is going to get over you. And what are you doing loving a woman that stabbed her ex in the neck ...and is also on the path to stabbing you too? If you can, try to gather some evidence of the abuse, then leave the house and then get another bank account where all your money would go. Please, follow these steps in the right order as mixing them up could make her hurt you. If you change your account before u step out, she might hurt you. If you don't get some sort of evidence (hidden camera recordings and/or voice recording of another one of her episodes) against her, she might turn around and report that you were the abusive one. Since you did not get your green card through her, she has no power over that. Please, free yourself!

I'm so sorry to hear your troubles. May I ask - is your wife Indian also? How did you meet her and under what circumstances? I mean, were you two ever in love? It seem she petitioned for you a VISA to come here to US, is this true, or you are here already and you two meet and marry here. We all know marriages can go bad, I was in a bad on myself. But it was good for a long time first. Had yours ever been good?

God bless you in this.

There is good advice I read here on this board for you. You must protect yourself and if up to it, record all these maltreatment incidents and prepare for a divorce. I hate to offer that but based on what I read it is you only hope to be free and happy
