Hi!

I am in Ghana with my fiance and since we are probably looking at Feb/March for his interview assuming we get the NOA2 in Dec/Jan (is this even a good assumption?), we have some time to gather things for the interview before I head back to the U.S. in a couple of months.

So all of the forms and instructions he needs will come in packet 3 & 4, right? Does anyone have a list of all of the things that come in those packets?

For the Accra consulate specifically, which form will will need for the financial support documentation? Which medical labs/clinics/hospitals are approved for medical screenings and what does he need? Which police stations are approved for giving him his police report?

If anyone has these forms (for Accra cosulate specifically) or knows where to look for them please let me know. HUGELY appreciated.

Good luck to everyone!

If I remember correctly the forms that he will get in that packet are the DS-230 forms. When he gets the packet they will tell him what police station to go to and what doctors to go to. Don't worry about getting either of these done until he gets that packet. You don't want to have to worry about them expiring and he won't have any troubles getting into the doctor's office. The police report comes from a police station in Accra and it takes about a week to get.

The financial form is NOT the 865 it's the other one (I can't think of the other number currently.) You'll fill out the 865 when you are both in the US and applying for AOS.

Sorry, I don't know much about the requirements for Ghana. Kanyiri has some good advice. Just a comment though, If you do get NOA2 from USCIS in December or January then I think a Feb/March interview may be a bit early. I could be wrong, as processing times do vary.

Best Wishes

Hi a&o,

My husband's brother will be making some inquiries for us at the Ghana Embassy tomorrow, so I will let you know exactly what happens. Our 129f is in Ghana but we are having our brother go and set the date for us and also pick up packets 3 and 4 since my husband is Ghanaian citizen but currently resides in Greece playing football.

My brother in law did find out today thought about the medicals..at least for Trinity House. The other is called Akai, I believe from reading in past post on here.

My brother in law was able to speak a woman that works there and she told him that because my husband lives abroad if he pays extra money he can have his medical injections within a week so long as he is willing to pay extra money. What that amount entails she did not state. I have heard the same thing about the police report in Ghana that the more money you put on it, the faster service you will get, so I would not worry too much about all this.

While you guys are both there, make sure you take lots of pictures as that will be evidence that your relationship is legitimately out of love and nothing else. Wow, how lucky you both are to be together this few months!! I miss my hubby so much! Wish us luck that all goes well when my brother in law goes to the embassy for us tomorrow!

:D

Wow! Thanks so much for the advice.

Akatagirl please do let me know what you find out. I tried going to the U.S. consulate here to get information but they just kept repeating that I have to wait for the packets. *sigh* In Ghana of course it's all about having a connection and laying down cash (well, I guess it's like that in many places!), so hopefully the person your brother in law knows who works there can give him lots more info.

I met someone (an American) who works at the consulate in Accra and when I told her we were in the process of applying for a fiance visa she became very reserved and didn't want to tell me anything, except to "comfort" me by saying it would be difficult because "there is just so much fraud in Ghana with fiance visas." Nice.

Anyway, thanks again! And if I find out anything else I'll post it here.

Hi again!

I just went to the Akai House clinic (which is one of the clinics the Accra consulate uses) and talked to someone there who said the medical tests required for the K1 visa are a chest x-ray, a blood test (for HIV and STDs), and a stool sample (didn't ask what that's for). The man said it takes 2-3 weeks for the results and that they deliver the results to the consulate directly. Sounds good, but who knows if that's really how it will go. They don't take appointments and the clinic was packed with people who look like they've been waiting for a good long time and the receptionist was on a personal call at the desk for 10 minutes before she looked up to see what I needed. (I have to try better to remember my hard won Africa time and patience lesson, right?! ;) )

If there is a choice of clinics and anyone knows that one of them is better/faster/cheaper than others, please post it.

Akatagirl, it is nice to be here with my fiance indeed! Only trouble is that working here has made my income about 12% of the federal poverty level! (Working on a co-sponsor for sure.) But I do feel for you, being apart. Thanks for the reminder to take pictures, too. We are also gathering statements from friends here on their company letterhead in case that will help.

Thanks Kanyiri, also, for more great advice!

a&o,

about the US consulate employee. There has a been a long running rift between the embassy/consulate employees and the PCVs. The consulate people think that the PCVs get too close to the Ghanaian citizens. They are a little bitter that so many get married to Ghanaians. Though I can kind of understand b/c they see so much fraud day in and day out that they get a little jaded. Anyway, I wouldn't look for any support from them.

Re will know more about what doctors he went to. The main problem that I've heard from people on VJ is the doctor fails to send the results to the consulate. Just make sure you are nice to the doctor so he feels the need to immediately send the results to the consulate.

Thanks! I remember in China as a PCV we had to promise not to marry a Chinese national. That promise was something Beijing required because of the government there. But it's odd that the U.S. embassy staff are weird about PCVs marrying Ghanaians. That's definitely the reason for the cold attitude I received from the embassy staff person, then. They should realize that Ghanaians are so loveable it's bound to happen again and again! :D

Just wanted share my brother in law experience being at the Ghana Embassy today...

He went this morning and got there before 7am as instructed by many who have gone there..finally got in around 9am and the security guard would not let him thru.

My brother in law went there with a signed statement from my husband written on his football club letterhead giving his consent for him to have all our documents which were: a letter from NVC about our case being on the way to Ghana and details that NVC could not do a change of address since it was already on its way to Ghana, NOA2 letter for the i129f both front and back side, and copy of my husband's passport. (FYI, we scanned all this info and had his brother print it out online.)

My brother in law calls me all distraught and I think the guard heard him talking to me because in the midst of us talking on the phone, the guard calls him over, so he hangs up with me talk with the guard who then allows him to talk with an immigration officer. This person takes a look at his papers and tells him that they received our case but have not finished processing it. My brother in law then tells them to note the change in address for the beneficiary. Whether they cared to note that in our file is unclear to me at this point because they did not take the letter that noted all this information. They then telll him that

the way they handle this petitions is different than in America. (Ok I dont know what they were trying to imply by that statement!) They said when they have finished processing our petition, they will send me, the USC, packet 3 so I can send it to my husband who now resides in Greece.

My brother in law then takes down their contact information which I am not sure if its the same as on their website but here are the numbers: 7010163 or 776601 and for me to call them today or tomorrow after 3pm their time to make any further inquiries.

I have emailed them for the past 2 weeks now trying to inform them of my husband's new address in Greece but have not gotten any response or anything indicating that they have rec'd those emails!

All in all, I would have to say that my brother in laws experience at the Ghanaian Embassy today lived up to all the hype about Ghana being a not so friendly Embassy! So now I am will just have to try my best and call them to see if I can reach anyone and continue to hope and pray that they will keep their word and send me packet 3....

Wow, I cant believe they have issues with the PCV marrying the nationals. How petty is that? Ghana is a great country, too bad their Embassy there is so messed up! I pray that both of you have a smooth and easy time going through there.
