AOS Interview at Philly Office

I had wrote previously about my friends quick process so far.

She sent her application in for AOS for her husband who came from Mauratania on a B1 Visa.

She went to the interview today and was initially interviewed with her husband, then they were separated and interviewed separately.

Was this a mini stokes?

She said she was asked the following questions:

1.Do you trust your husband?

2.Do you and your husband use birth control?

3.Where was your husband yesterday morning?

4.What did you have for dinner last night? Who cooked it?

5.Did you and your husband meet before getting married?

6. How soon did your husband propose after meeting you?

They asked her husband some of the same.

They answered differently for the questions about birth control and what was he doing yesterday morning.

She said yes initially to birth control and he said no which was'nt true.

She said he was in bed but he was actually going to slaughter an animal for the Eid Al Adha. She did correct herself though.

They also didn't meet before they got married. They spoke on the phone for a couple of hours and then when he went to her city they married.

This is common in Islamic weddings because there is no contact before. I met my husband in a similar way and he wanted to marry me the first time we spoke but I made him wait. I wanted him to visit with me and my kids etc. We got married after a few months none the less.

So based on this does anyone think that there are any alarm bells?

I told her that she needed to be better prepared. Messing up where he was in the morning was silly. Also she was too chatty with the IO. She told him that she didn't trust him initially but now she did after she saw the way that he was with her girls.

She said she had a quick interview. It was about thirty minutes in length. The IO asked about pictures and then asked if they had taken any of the pictures of the both of them for the interviews. She answered yes as she had taken pictures of him and the girls to show the relationship.

Funnily enough they also asked about her previous Islamic marriage. Specifically asking if an Imam married them. In NYC a religious marriage is legal even without a license so I wonder if that's why the IO asked to see if she was legally divorced. She was married in Illinois to her first husband.

They were told that they would have a decision within a month.

Any thoughts??

It does sound like a mini stokes.

I can't really tell what the decision will be. Sure, some of her answers were less than ideal, but she was truthful and being chatty should mean that enough extra information came out to explain the not-so-good stuff. Hopefully it will have been obvious that they were truthful and that their relationship was real. I'm guessing she wasn't chatty enough to tell him what form of birth control they use (could've been useful if it is a form that the woman is responsible for). The IO sounds friendly, which could be good or bad but you'd -hope- it is good. The IO should be familiar enough with similar marriages to understand it and so interpret her responses in the correct way. (You'd think, anyhow.)

Thanks for the reply. Shes very anxious right now. She said the IO barely looked up from the paperwork as he was asking the questions. I hope it all works out for them.

And it did work out for them!

They got the letter of approval this morning. Now that's what I call fast!

The entire process from start to finish was about three and a half months.
