i think someone who so desperately wants to be an american has proven themsleves worthy to have a petition given to them.

But this is the point, exactly: yes, somebody who went through heel to come here and feed his family and wants nothing more than becoming an American should be given a path to that goal. I agree.

But would you say the same of someone who came here to feed his family but wants nothing more then to be Mexican in America until it can be assimilated back into Mexico? Someone who exclusively speaks Spanish whenever possible, has the Mexican flag on his car and in his yard, listens to Mexican music coming from a Mexican radio station, reads the Mexican newspaper, sends money back "home" to Mexico, and raises their children the Mexican way?

Serious question.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

based on the hatred they encounter from "americans" i personally dont blame them when they embrace what they know (i.e. the language/food/music/print with which they are familiar)

if you gave your info (receipt #s, full name, etc) to anyone on VJ under the guise that they would "help" you through the immigration journey with his inside contacts (like his sister at USCIS) ... please contact OLUInquiries@dhs.gov, and go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact to report anything suspicious. Contact your congressman and senator's offices as well.

The "hate" you speak ot forcing millions of Mexicans to flee the country- not. I live in city that's 38% Hispanic there's very little open antagonism.

They embrace the stuff they know because many don't speak English very well but their kids pick up English in school.

you explained it perfectly you live in a city 38% hispanic = very little open antagonism

in some areas with almost 98% white and very 'backward thinking' there is outward discrimination. it can be quite intimidating and it's understandable that some withdraw into their own communities. to be 'different' in some areas of america is just not accepted. it's not like this everywhere, i can only speak to the areas *I* know.
