A man opened fire on his television with a shotgun because he was so incensed by Sarah Palin's daughter's on-screen dancing.

Cowan was apparently infuriated by Bristol Palin's performance on a TV show

Steven Cowan's actions - provoked by his view of Bristol Palin's performance on the popular celebrity dance show Dancing With The Stars - sparked an all-night standoff with police.

Court documents revealed Cowan, 67, was "fed up with politics" and thought "Palin wasn't a very good dancer".

After blasting the television at his Wisconsin home, Cowan pointed the gun at his wife Janice. She escaped and managed to call the police.

Vermonter? He lives in Vermont but has his TV in WISCONSIN?

Wisconsin is not in Vermont but the Green Mountains ARE in Vermont. Vermont is in the Northeast United States, Wisconsin is in the North Central United States. I recently drove to Wisconsin from Vermont and it took more than 18 hours taking the SHORT CUT through Canada. WELL out of shotgun range.

I have no idea why people in Wisconsin act like that and it is possible they would not be able to responsibly handle being allowed to be armed anywhere they go without a permit as Vermonters are.

Strangely enough it sounds like something that might happen in the state of Vermont.

Who'd a thunk it - a Vermont right in the middle of Wisconsin!

Strangely enough it sounds like something that might happen in the state of Vermont.

Vermont & New Hampshire, strange bedfellows.

There is also a Moscow, Vermont, but I DO know the difference.

Considering there were, lets see...

FOUR homicides in Vermont last year, two of which were "negligent" I am certain that figure is exceeded within particular city blocks of Milwaukee.

NO policemen killed in the line of duty by criminal action. EVER.

The last random homicide was in 2006.

Then YES it would be strange to think it sounds like something that happens in Vermont. Vermont has a miniscule crime rate which is the envy of every other state. If the guy were in Vermont he would probably turn off the TV and go to bed. How exciting. Vermont is a place where you do not need to lock your doors, where you do not need to fear the safety of your children and where people respect and accept each other. I see beautiful scenery driving to work that hundreds of thousands of people pay lots of money to see and use their vacation time to see. Unlike a lot of people, so it would seem, I LOVE where I live.

To tell the truth if someone wanted to blast their TV with a shotgun in Vermont, we really wouldn't care anyway. It's your TV, blast it if you want.

And how on earth do you come to the conclusion that "Vermont and New Hampshire are strange bedfellows" WHAT? What exactly do you know about this area that those of us living here do not? Where is it that you live that makes you feel better to try and run down where someone else lives? Jeezum, you need to move.

Shooting one's own TV with one's own gun is nothing for me to concern myself with...I will leave that to other people that wish to contrl every aspect of our life...maybe even what we WATCH on TV.

Never mind that the conclusion was JUMPED TO (rational?) that this person was from VERMONT, Vermont and not Vermont, WISCONSIN and then other "things" (who knows what things) were alluded to because this state is called "Vermont" and one of the neighboring states is called "New Hampshire" (WoooHooo!)

Let's just cherry pick that I couldn't care less if you destroy your own TV and with what.

Yes I mistakenly placed him in Vermont but where he is from has nothing to do with

a random act of a nutty guy. If I said it could have happened in Vermont it wasn't an

indictment of gun use in Vermont, only taking note of the tendency of Vermont to

vote liberally, in contrast to New Hampshire, which has also been historically conservative.

I'm not saying one or the other is good or bad, just curious how two small states

in the same region came to think very differently.

A guy shooting his TV could have happened in Alabama, Scarsdale or Brooklyn as well.

It could have happened anywhere. Maybe later we'll find out if he was making a political

statement or if it was just that his wife was oo-ing and aa-ing at Bristol's moves.

Sorry, shooting a TV is not the act of a rational person. People who are irrational should not be in charge of weaponry period. Just because you don't care what irrational people do in their own homes doesn't mean the law doesn't care, it does.

He was cleaning his gun in the living room and the unloaded gun fired. So from now on it is I shot the tv because I cannot stand her dancing. (that's my story and I 'm sticking to it)
