Travel outside US with a passport is expired in less than 6 months

Hi, I am currently holding a 2 year GC. I am planning to go back to my country (Vietnam) next year (January 2011) and back to the US in Feb. However, my passport will be expired in April 2011 which is less than 6 months from the day I return. I don't know if it would cause any problem to me, as a conditional GC holder or not. Would they still let me in the US or not ?

no it will not be a problem.... as a US resident they are not concerned about 6 mos. of passport validity...

FWIW, why do you not just get it renewed

Here is the thing, I already bought my ticket, and will be departed from the US on the first week of Jan. next year and come back here in Feb. The reason I don't want to renewal my passport right now because that process could take from 2 to 3 months which would be past my flying date. I heard that some airlines don't give you boarding pass if your passport is valid less than within 6 months from your departure date or some countries could deny your entry at the airport. The travel agent told me that I could go back to Vietnam and renewal my passport over there which is cheaper and faster, but since hes not an expert so I don't really take his words too much. I will be fly China Airline, think I should call and ask them ?
