Dutch F-16s escorted a Northwest Airlines flight bound for India back to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Wednesday, and authorities detained several passengers for questioning, an airport spokeswoman said.

The pilot requested permission to return as the aircraft was flying over Germany shortly after leaving Amsterdam, and asked for a military escort, spokeswoman Pamela Kuypers said.

[...]

Rick Hirs, a spokesman for the customs police at Schiphol, said it was not yet clear why the plane returned.

"We don't know yet. We are interviewing passengers and crew members," he said.

Hirs said nobody on the plane had been arrested.

According to rediff.com:

"A number of suspects were taken off the plane -- I don't know how many. They're undergoing questioning now," airport spokesperson Snoerwang said.

[...]

The plane had 149 passengers on board. Unconfirmed reports say that seven pasengers have been detained for questioning.

The Pilot has OCD and thought he left his front door unlocked.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch police arrested 12 passengers on a U.S. Northwest Airlines plane bound for India which was forced to turn back to Amsterdam's Schiphol airport on Wednesday, news agency ANP reported.

ANP said a police spokesman said 12 were arrested, but declined to give further details due to the ongoing investigation. Dutch police were not immediately available to comment on the report.

The Dutch defense ministry said earlier the pilot decided to turn back after the crew said several of the 149 passengers on flight 42 to Mumbai were behaving suspiciously.

hmm.. I wonder what they did to be "suspicious" ?

A plane from Amsterdamn ? Suspicious passenger on a plane from Amsterdamn is really not out of character! Were acting a little Buzzed? or maybe a severe case of the Munchies?

I wonder if the suspicious passngers stopped in one of Amterdamns famous cafes before boarding the plane.

Dutch media cited eye witnesses saying those arrested were not following airline security rules and were exchanging mobile phones which had made other passengers uneasy.

"They were not paying attention to what the flight attendents were saying," an unnamed female passenger said on NOS television.

http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews....=rss&rpc=22

A passenger from the U.S., who identified herself only as Alpa, told AP Television News she saw about a dozen people taken off the aircraft in handcuffs who appeared to be of South Asian origin.

"There was no kind of conversation that we could hear. All I could see was that the security police took a lot of people off the plane and handcuffed a few of them," she said.

Well I'm sorry but I will be flying to the US next month and by God I'd rather have a few ppl "paranoid" and the pilot asking for a Military escort back then my plane going up in flames!!!

So far nobody knows what the arrested ppl did or did not do.Why not just wait and find out before calling concerned passengers paranoid?????????

Why can ppl not understand the new security messaures?????? Do you NOT hear/see the news????

NOTHING at all is paranoid when it comes to security!!!!!!!!!!!!

Messing around with cell phone during take-off? Either stupid or up to something. Sit down and shut the f### up during take-off and landing. If you don't understand that you have no business being on a plane.

yea i think the main issue here is that they weren't following the instructions.. during takeoff u shouldn't have any electronics on.. period..

and.. no... getting paranoid aint equal to more security.. paranoid is chaos during these situations where u need to have a cold head.. not starting freaking out because probly these dudes were messing up with their ringtones.. lawl

if someone paranoid starts yelling in my flight like a crazy b.itch.. im gonna smack them in the fukinc head so they stfu..
