I've been reading the posts of others who have gone before me trying to get an ideal of the whole process and i keep seeing packets. Are their 3 separate packets mailed to you when filing dcf? what packets are mailed and what information do you need to send?(besides the evidence for I-130 and ds_230) is it something i can start getting together now?

When you do a DCF you pretty much by pass all of the NVC stuff, however they do need to send off your I-130 to have it approved at the nearest USCIS field office. After filing the I-130 and getting it approved we received Packet 3 (which are the Instructions on how to apply for the visa interview along with forms DS-2100 and DS-230) then we will receive Packet 4 once the interview has been scheduled. It may be different for the Embassy where you are doing the DCF at. The embassy website for Colombia has all of the documents and packets available online to download, I would first check with the website for the embassy where your at. Also you can check the embassy info at http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/

Hi eslamswife

I know when you are looking to how to do this, it can be very overbearing. If you are filing DCF at Cairo for your SO here is the website that will help you prepare and tell you what papers you need to file. There is also a phone number that you can call the call center at the consulate in Cairo to make an appointment.

Good luck with your journey!

What C. Georges said is similar to the process here in the philippines. You file the I-130 with supporting paperwork (close to what the USCSIS requirments are but not quite the same -- contact your embassy to find out as each embassy can set different rules!) -- once that is processed they send you back the packet 3 with ds-230 and interview request form. then you get packet 4 with the interview date/information.

thanks. that is what i was getting at i was just trying to see if their were any forms i did not know about that i could go ahead and prepare in advance.. Yes the requirement is little different here too, the consular ask for much less on the I-130.

it's pretty crazy that every embassy is allowed to change up the requirements from the mail in package.
