'Palin's Alaska' draws 5M viewers

Sarah Palin set a rating record with the premiere of her new show on Sunday.

“Sarah Palin’s Alaska” was viewed 4.96 million people, the largest premiere in TLC network history, the channel announced Monday.

[/url]The show produced by reality TV mogul Mark Burnett was watched by 1.8 million adults aged 25-54, a key demographic.

Buzz for Palin’s show was built by numerous news outlets eager to report details from the first show.

The former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate contends that the program is not a “reality show,” though the first episode featured many scenes with her family, including in their home.

Palin reportedly sought $1 million per episode for the 8 week season.

Decent numbers, especially for a low key cable network. If they can sustain it for the duration of the show, I'll be impressed. My guess is they will slip back into the 2-3.5 range, which is still respectable. I do think that the ratings from the first show are heavily inflated because of the trainwreck effect. However, in the end, that doesn't really matter as i'm sure Palin will be using the numbers from last night to negotiate and renegotiate her rates.

Palin is showing future Presidential candidates how it's done. The old rules are gone. This is how you get elected to national office in 2012 and beyond.

Especially if the kinds of voters you want voting for you don't read newspapers.

Stereotype much?

Oh, I forgot, she is a Republican, not a Democrat. Nevermind...

She has the mental capacity of a grapefruit. That doesn't have to be a partisan argument. There are many more qualified republicans. I would vote for Jim DeMint over her.

DeMint would run circles around Palin. You have to respect DeMint for his obvious smarts. Palin, not so much.

I may not agree with his policy preferences, but I can respect his political acumen and savvy. He has essentially made himself the power broker of the senate.
