Hi everyone,

Stupid question but i want to be sure.

Is it forbidden to work, have his own business (for example a bakery, a real estate, be a landscaper...) without the EAS?

I mean i understand a EAS is necessary to be hire by an employer, but if we work for our own during few months... Forbidden? :bonk:

Thank you

Yes. Social Security cards say "Not valid without DHS Authorization" on them. You have to have to card to LEGALLY work.

Now, if he is selling stuff on Ebay, under your name, and the money goes into your account as long as you don't PAY him, he's not really working is he ;)?

It's crazy.. people wants to have a job, to work and they just can't...

But....we immigration related people understand that there are rules we must abide by and we understood these when we began the whole process and we are determined to follow those rules. We also understand that as voting USCitizens, we can change the rules by electing those officials who will change the rules as we want. We understand that this is how the US works and what makes the US great. Correct?

As previously stated, self-employment or employment through someone else are the same... "employment" which is illegal unless he has an EAD or GC

** moved from "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" to " Working & Traveling During US Immigration" as this is relating to an EAD **

Anybody can own thire own business in the U.S. to register a company you take your passport down to the local county or district clerk.

To pay takes on your business apply for an EIN.

Many have done so. Its not illegal to work for yourself

It IS when you don't have work authorisation. Employment is employment, whether self-employed or other.

In FACT, though it might not happen, if ICE were to raid his "business" to look for illegals then he would receive a company fine as well as a personal fine for working without authorisation. He'd also likely be locked up in detention until he got bailed and who knows what else. Working (and receiving any payment for said work) without authorisation is illegal.

After all we go through to get our loved ones here, it just seems somewhat crazy (i dont want to violate TOS, so I wont use the word stupid, but that's what I'm thinking) to jeoperdize your future and your immigration status... how much longer will it take to get your EAD? Isn't worth the wait with what's at stake?

Just my opinion... B-)
