We had two weddings-a small, private ceremony in February and the The Big One in June. Both were Catholic ceremonies in the church; the priest, when he heard we were planning a courthouse ceremony, told us not to do that, he'd just have the ceremony in the church twice.

We had a registry office ceremony in England first, before our wedding and it was BRILLIANT! It was the holiday season and they had the office, which really looked more like a cute little chapel (with an aisle to walk down) decorated with holiday greenery (wreaths, flowers, even a Christmas tree) and since anyone getting married there had to book a specific time, there was no waiting around. That said...it was New Year's Eve and if I remember correctly, no one else was booked for a wedding that day. We had received choices of vows when we applied for the license, so we just told the registrar which we were going to use and she read them out for us to repeat. We also were allowed to bring any kind of music we wanted, as long as it wasn't religious, but we forgot the music, so they let us choose from the choices they had there. We only had our immediate family at the registry office ceremony. It was FABULOUS!

Our proper wedding, also in the UK was 7 months later.

Having attended a city hall ceremony years ago, I just found it so impersonal and drab... I'm sure it depends on the place, but I DO get the impression registry offices abroad are just nicer... *shrug* What I thought was cute too was the private vestibule we had for our guests to wait in while we were filling in the paperwork, pre-ceremony. It was also decorated and all comfy and best of all, private.

Ohhh, I forgot...what I wore...because it was New Year's Eve and all festive, I wore a black velvet skirt & jacket and had red roses.
