Ok I am starting to feel guilty that I am not going to have a big, expensive wedding for at least another year.

Please tell me that I am not the only one who is doing this(please). I am really feeling guilty. Damn Irish-Catholic guilt  If you did do this-did you get really dressed-up?

As a (former) Catholic myself, we are not doing a church wedding at all, much to my mom's dismay. We are doing a courthouse first then a 'real' wedding in January on a beach (I hope).

oooh :( Don't you dare feel bad. Think of all the money you are saving and what you can do with it and perk up :) Stew and I got married in Oz in their version of the courthouse. We invited his fam and had a gorgeous day. we went out to a nice dinner to celebrate and stayed in a swanky hotel :)

You can see what I wore in my photos. I did get dressed up in a white dress. Not a full wedding gown, but an informal. Stew wore a suit. I wouldn't change the way we did it for anything.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

As a Catholic, I felt no guilt by getting married in city hall in Toronto. I did have a wedding gown, flowers, brides maids the whole thing. If we were to get married in a Catholic church we would of have to go to classes for up to a year. It would of been really hard considering he was in the US and I was in Canada, and of course we wanted to get the immigration paper work started. Maybe one day we'll marry in a church or maybe not. But don't kid yourself what kind of wedding do you really want? Good luck!

Whenever, wherever

We're meant to be together

I'll be there and you'll be near

And that's the deal my dear

Thereover, hereunder

You'll never have to wonder

We can always play by ear

But that's the deal my dear

Finally in USA with hubby!!

That's what we plan on doing if we get the chance. Don't see anything wrong with it and it will give you more time to plan something a little more exciting later.

Thats our plans. i think it is more personal, less expensive, and kinda works because of our different faiths. Oh, and it is legal .

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

We did a private wedding in Vancouver, only the two of us, nothing fancy. Hubby even only wore jeans !! LOL ... My brother-in-law just had his courthouse wedding with his Vietnamese fiancee, very simple one, noone was really dressy. So don't feel bad, it's normal... I prefer to save the money for our house or vacation... ;)

Soooooooooooooo glad we aren't the only ones doing things this way. I said "catholic guilt" but I just meant that I feel a little guilty that we are not doing what we really want to so we can get things moving along with Immigration.

I am not even sure if I will be getting married in a church-when the time comes. We may even get married in Ireland. I just have to start saving

Thanks guys you made me feel better

We had a real small wedding in my house (parents and siblings only) and are now planning a church one for next summer.

If you don't necessarily want the court house, you can get a JP to come to your house. It cost $75, we got dressed up, but not wedding dressed up, then had a nice dinner. Oh and I got a mini wedding cake for desert.

Don't feel guilty about whatever choice you make!

We got married at the civil registry in Mexico. I have to say that as far as a wedding goes, it felt pretty much as unspecial as it could have. First we stood in the back of a huge line that included lots of moms coming to register births and people wanting copies of various things...then when we got to the front of the line we had to wait an hour for the people before us to finish their wedding...then we had to fill out a ridiculous amount of paperwork which included us having to get up repeatedly to go find our witnesses, as they only came in when they had to sign something. Then we had to give fingerprints on the thousands of paperwork. Then we had to go back out and wait. When we finally got before the judge, he rattled on something about the rights and responsibilities of married people (just to give you a couple examples, he said that polygamy is illegal and we should be a good example for our future kids)...but most of it I didn't understand. The only things he didn't talk about were love and anything even close to sentimental. Then he said do you all accept this and we said "si" and then we were married. It was as unremarkable a day as the previous day when we got my permiso from the immigration. We had to do the rings ourselves as he was signing something and there wasn't even a kissing part, so we completely forgot to do that. Then to top it all off, we had to come back later in the day to pick up the certificate, which turned out not to be an official certificate. I wore the two piece top and skirt outfit that I wore for Easter; Javier wore a nice shirt and gray slacks. We have like no pictures. I would have been upset if I didn't have our actual wedding coming up. And to be honest, despite all the disappointments, I wasn't really upset at all-I guess the happiness that comes with the knowledge that you're married can overcome any situation...even if you're not aware of it. Ohhh, the saddest part :( was we had lunch and dinner alone that day...

Having said all that, it is HIGHLY unlikely you will have an experience similar to that of my Mexican experience. As you can see, the majority of everyone else had really nice experiences, and I think that's in part due to where the marriages took place. Just relax, and enjoy the day, don't expect too much, and you WILL be happy! Congrats!!
