First of all, can anyone confirm whether the Montreal consulate still accepts normal postal service mail?

OK so the Packet 3 we received from Montreal says:

Please return the forms and checklist to the US Consulate via the DHL courier location that you previously selected. This service is provided to you at no additional cost. Courier services are provided within Canada only.

There is no other explanation in the packet of how to use this supposedly free courier service. Also, nearly all the information online and nearly all the discussions on here seem to be about getting your passport & docs back from Montreal via DHL - no one seems to have anything to ask or say about this supposed requirement to send them to Montreal via DHL, or how we are supposed to do it free of charge.

The only other information I could find was here at usvisa-info.com (the site where you register to select a courier location according to the P3 instructions). It says:

Under limited circumstances, an applicant may be required to send documentation to the consular section. Please only do this if the consular section has instructed you to do so, or if the process to apply clearly indicates that you must submit documentation through courier service. For an explanation of the correct application process, please log into this site, select the Purpose of Travel, and follow the steps to obtain all the information necessary to apply, and to schedule a visa interview appointment if necessary. To submit documents, please click here and print the "CSC DHL Submit Documents Form." Insert the "Applicant ID" found on the "Applicant Summary" or the "Appointment Confirmation."

(What's up with "limited circumstances"? Limited as in "pretty much everyone who is applying"?:hehe: )

The PDF form they link to shows a blank for "Applicant ID" which a footnote on the form says you can find "on the Applicant Summary page of CSC’s website at http://usvisa-info.com once the applicant logs in." When you login, however, the only numeric identifiers are your Passport number, and a "Reference ID." I assume that you are to write this Reference ID in the "Applicant ID" blank on the PDF, and bring it with you to the DHL location where they will ship your docs for free.

My fiancée tried to bring in the stuff to the St. Catherine's location today, which is a whole other story in itself. The location is an unmarked depot, there are no signs, no office entry doors and no human beings. I called their number, it gave a busy signal. I called the DHL customer service number in Canada, she said that the location's real number is unlisted and that she didn't even have it. Eventually we decided to just ship it via post.

The lack of information on this is really startling. I, too, need to know whether they'll still accept regular mail. I don't understand why they wouldn't? For me, the closest DHL location is an hour away. I'm sorry but I'm not driving 2 hours to mail documents when there is a perfectly good mailbox right outside my building.

Keep us up to date about when they log her packet 3 and whatnot.

Oh, apparently http://csc.public.s3...uments_Form.pdf is what you print out to show they should ship the documents for free. I realize this won't help your fiancee now, just thought I'd put it out there. I got this from Liltiggster.

Okay, I know this doesn't REALLY answer your question about using Canada Post.... but I sent my P3 back from DHL in Windsor, ON rather than London, ON bc London is 2 hrs away and closes before I could possibly get there unless I took students on a road trip to DHL haha.... soo I took a chance. My tracking log says it was successfully delivered, so I assume Canada Post would be okay, too. Maybe just sent it via registered mail, so at least you know if it was accepted or not.

So, long story short, I didn't send it from one of the few select locations by Montreal, but it was successfully delivered.

I hope that even remotely helps! Good luck :)

We sent our packet 3 back via express post and not DHL in the last week of Oct and it was logged in 3 days later. Hope that helps. I am wondering if we will have express post as an option at the consulate to mail the visa back as my Fiance is 2 hours from the nearest DHL location.

I'm also curious to know if you received the email from Mtl saying you can schedule the interview. That is apparently the process now but no one has gotten to that stage yet and posted the email (that I know of).

Yes  ..Once your packet 4 is received it will tell you to log online and schedule an appointment at the Montreal consulates website..it will first ask you to pay the $350.00 (accepts credit cards) and once you get a payment confirmation number you enter that number on the bottom of the payment page and it brings you to a page where there is a calendar and you can pick the next available date or any available dates on the calendar. It was easier getting an appointment for the interview than it's been getting an appointment for the medical.

I hope so for you too..if you look at my timeline you'll notice everything else though took a really really long time...the USCIS "misplaced" our petition and then once they located it after putting a tracer on it...we got a RFE because my "uninformed waste of $$$ lawyer" forgot to send my fiances portion of the G125A form...so all in all we felt it was about time the speed started to pick up in this process..I had read on the forums that Montreal takes a long time to book appointments so I am thinking the new improved speed has to do with the new system they just put in place...still though Vancouver is faster..I saw some people on here who got an appointment there only a month away from the time that they went to book the appointment...but hey 2 months is still far better than the 3-4 month wait I was told it would take.

Ugh, so my chances of still having my car for the interview are now zero. Guessing I'll be in Montreal in April or May. Wow, 11 months for a fiance visa. Congratulations American government, you suck.
