Filing Question

I recently entered the military. I maintain my permanent address on the east coast. However, I am temporarily stationed on the west coast. I have an apartment, but I do not know how long I will be here, weeks to months. I am going use my permanent address as the address I want to bring my fiance to. I also want my mail sent to my permanent address. My question is what site will evaluate my petition? I think I have to say this apartment my is my most recent address (West Coast). But I would much rather have my petition sent to Vermont. California is so much slower than Vermont according to this web site that it seems outrageously unfair to me. I mean a little difference makes sense. But 2 months longer! If they would makes things a little more equal I would not care where my petition goes.

Regardless you cannot control where your petition goes. I live in Miami, and I have a friend from Argentina who recently got his citzenship. He has filed to bring his wife over however even though his address is in Miami, his file was sent to California Svc Center anyway.

Just file with all needed documentation and hope for the best. The only thing you can do to control your case is send all necessary documentation, make sure it's well supported so you can avoid any RFE's and wait.

BTW as a point of comparison, his was sent to California and mine was sent to Vermont.

Mine was sent to California and then a week later transferred to Vermont. I live far from from both states so I don't know why it was transferred. I thought it was to help with the overflow, give Cali some relief. It doesn't hurt to send it to Vermont but it may be tfr'd.

USCIS has recently changed the procedure and now sends petitions to be processed at various service centers as demand warrants. Send it where you are directed to in the instructions.

The processing times of different service centers changes frequently and often quickly. CSC may be the slow one right now, and they could start popping out petitions in 30 days tomorrow, no kidding. It has happened several times since I have been a VJ member. Service center "shopping", besides being impossible, is not practical. There will be a lot of waiting involved in this process...prepare for that.

Use your permanent address. The USCIS will send the petition wherever they choose and you should not try to outthink them in this regard. You are in for a wait of many months and just buck it up and deal with it.
