Hello,

I had a question re: the I-864 and previous years' tax receipts vs. current income.

My husband's last 3 tax receipts were all well below the poverty line (he was a student at a certain point and then working contractually up until August of last year) but this year he's well above the poverty line (despite being out of work for two and a half months recently, he's already earned something like 26 000 and he's starting a new full-time position today at 36 000 per year. Will this be enough or will we likely need a co-sponsor? Will the fact that he's just starting a new job now will work against our favour?

Thanks in advance. You guys are always so helpful.

Oh boy.. this kind of thing really varies consulate to consulate... You may want to post in a Canada forum and get some info more tailored to your consulate. My advice would be to get a letter from his current employer, stating his monthly and yearly rate of pay, and that he is a permanent employee. Also school transcripts to explain the lack of income in the past 3 years, and then, after all that, have a co sponsor lined up in case they ask for one..

I would suggest to have a co-sponsor if possible.

WITHOUT 3 years tax returns and being above 125%

HE IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A CO SPONSOR

ITS USCIS LAW. he has to

He could make a millions dollars now but they look

for the stability of the last 3 years taxes or you

need to have a co sponsor.

Get a family memeber to be a co sponsor they dont have to pay

nothing for being one

Good Luck

Not necessarily true in all cases.. As I said, it varies consulate to consulate.. not USCIS law, don't know where you got that one from..

you should get a co-sponsor!

Also when I did my I-864 I only gave them 2009 taxes for myself and co-sponsor...did not even include an amount of what was earned for the other three years or tax documents. I did however include a letter of employment for me and my co-sponsor.
